What is your best horror story

During an interior inspection a 10 year old child entered the room I was in and was triying to get my attension. After a short coversation he left, then returned with some fireworks to show me. Clearling the child had some metnal issues. After the smoke cleared he returned with a pocket knife with the blade open and approached me. He tried telling his mother the smoke was from me smoking in thier house.... I had had enough.

Stories from the mid 1980s to early 1990s:

A colleague fell into an old septic tank, cover collapse, but she did not go under.

A colleague open a storm door to say hello, a little dog ran out into the street, trash collection that day, a very heavy truck. The small dog met his demise. The appraiser was able to complete the inspection.

An elderly-woman landlord owner asks me why is a lamp is on in the closet. I said have you ever seen a marijuana plant?

Did an appraisal on Chappaquiddick were a famous senator got drunk and made headlines around the world. The house still had plenty of booze after 20 years.

Proposition by a gay-guy who did not believe I was married.

I pulled over on the side of the road to take a comp photo. Wanted a closer picture, walk across the street took the photo, and then I ran down the street to catch my car that I left in drive. I was so lucky that day. I still get nervous each time I drive down that road.

I had forgot about that one. About 15 years ago, pulled up in my (standard shift) truck, did the inspection, came out to the street and the truck was gone. It was sitting in the middle of some guys yard about 10 lots down the street. Seems that the idiot driving the truck forgot to set the brake AND left it out of gear. I'm just glad the yard had an upward slope or it would have wound up in the guys bedroom. I have an automatic now.

Wow...talk about memories! I came out of a house to see my car was gone. It was snowing fairly hard so I left the car running. It was about half a block way in a guy's front yard up against a tree...the front wheel drive wheels still spinning in the snow. No damage to the tree or the car as it was up hill too. I was so embarrassed

I thought it was only me who left the car in drive. My car was moving down in the middle of the road driving by itself. I open the door and jump in and drove away. My heart was racing more than the car engine, very difficult to sleep that night.

Built in 1908, So Central Los Angeles. The house had a 5' attic pitch, unfinished with roofing exposed and plywood flooring with no heat, 3 beds a dresser for the kids and an extension cord leading from the bathroom downstairs. It was Christmas 2002 and I've never forgotten that.

1994

I show up to appraise this house in Azusa at the top of a hill in a residential neighborhood. I show up and the thing is a converted Los Angeles County Fire station the owner bought at an auction. His living room was 20 ft high ceilings, 40 ft x 60 ft with wall to wall carpet and concrete walls(the old fire engine bay.) No grass or yard, commercial kitchen...............basically just like it was when he bought the place complete with common showers and wall urinals....

I called the lender who was doing the refinance and said you're ****ed.

Obama becomes President and Hillary is the V.P.

Then, 4 months later something very unexpected and unfortunate befalls Mr. Obama....and Hillary becomes the President.

One can't script a horror story more frightening than that !

Man, thanks so much for these stories. They bring back so many memories of my 25 years working in the Los Angeles, South Central, and Malibu areas.

I've been surrounded by gang members twice wondering what I was doing in their neighborhood and thinking both times somebody's about to get shot (me) or run over by my car.

Numerous homes cleared by the Sheriffs escorting away addicts and "ladies" handcuffed so I could do my HUD inspections on them.

Did too many homes where you literally have only small pathways to walk in due to the 5-6 foot high pilled magazines and newspapers in every room.

Did a $4 million home for a 70+ year old woman in Pacific Palisades that also had a 30' X 60' basement complete with body torture racks, a jail cell, whips of every kind, handcuffs, standing racks, and the topper: 30+ custom paddles with seperate individual names on each.

Did a remote home with 40 solar panels in Malibu while the Sheriffs were busy clearing out the pot fields that surrounded it. And I wondered why there were 4 kitchens set up in the house.

But, by far; the worst and hardest was a 315' by 60' wide all glass, steel, and marble home near the top of Malibu. That appraisal lasted over 3 weeks off and on. It wasn't worth my time, even though I was paid almost the fee of 10 homes. I see it every now and again in B movies and adult movies late at night on TV.

I went to a house last week that had three bedrooms upstairs and the rooms were completely empty...the guy had lived there for 14 years. The really creepy part was the hand cuffs (real) hanging on one of the wall light sconces....I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Bad part...I have to go back there next week to confirm repairs required for FHA compliance. Methinks that I shall grab a very large, strong trainee and take him with me next go round. I am still considering the concealed weapon permit.:new_2gunsfiring_v1:

I woke up one night screaming - I had a dream that I was a Zaio zone owner, I was several months behind on updating my zones, it was time to take all 10,000 photos again, and all I had gotten from Zaio in the last three months was one AMC assignment. And I had bought Zaio stock at $4.00 per share with my retirement account.

Man, did I ever feel good when I woke up. :new_squarecycle:
