What is your best horror story

More squalor:
My ex wife and I had friends we met in A.A for about 3 years. He was a fire fighter and she was a registered nurse. they had both been sober for 10 years when we came into A.A. We did many things with these people and played on the same softball team. They were clean and well dressed and drove nice cars. One day they invited us over for dinner and we accepted. What we found at their house was probably %10 better than these photos. They ordered pizza and we sat there and ate but it was THE most uncomfortable situation I have ever been in. The guy married another woman and we are still close today and believe it or not has a beautiful home that is immaculate. Go figure!

4. Creepy husband wants to help me measure the house. No thanks. He asks again but this time he strokes my arm. YUK. I go inside the house and his wife is in a hospital bed in the living room completely naked with her legs amputated and a sheet pinned above her. As soon as I was out of her line of sight her husband kept ACCIDENTALLY bumping up against me.

Reminds me of the homeowner who knew I was there, waited for me to make my way upstairs and then walked out of the bathroom....naked - and sauntered to the bedroom with a smirk. :excl: Then the other creep (tenant) who sat on the couch exposing himself.

Judy, not every man can afford Gold Bond Medicated Powder. Remember, there are a lot of wrinkles in a typical nutbag and men sometimes have to let them "air out". Nothing worse than having a sweaty nutsack stuck to your leg. You need to cut those guys some slack.

So I should add some Gold Bond to my appraisal tool kit? who knew?

Absolutely, it would be a nice courtesy. This is, after all, an educational website. It is just that sometimes the education does not always involve appraisal issues directly. Glad I could enlighten you on "bag" issues.

Trust me, these people didn't brush.

They probably didn't have teeth. I have too many to count. Inspected a home last year where the lady raised praire dogs. There were at least 100 of them running all over the house. She let them defecate wherever they flelt like it and didn't clean up after them either. I threw up in her yard from the stench.

All right then, as long as I'm not expected to apply. That would be way beyond the scope of any assignment.

The three that most spring to mind for me are as follows:

Once when I was first starting I went along with my supervisor to do an inspection of a home that turned out it was boarded up. We got out and went to look at it, and affixed to the boards were warnings from the city stating that there was hazardous mold growing inside the home and it was dangerous to enter the property. We proceeded to walk around the outside of the home where in the rear we found a tree that was growing into the house itself. In addition, there sounds coming from inside that sounded like there were animals in there. Fortunately this wasn't my order, and I believe my supervisor ended up declining the order after explaining what appeared to be going on there.

My second story involves something I'm sure others have seen before, but I'll retell it anyway. I went and inspected a home that was so full of 'stuff' that there were only path ways. These pathways had been present so long that the carpet and pad was worn all the way through. It was possible, after climbing over 'stuff', to enter the kitchen and bathroom (which were disgusting). It was not possible to enter the bedrooms as they were too full of 'stuff' to open the doors. This was bad, but not nearly as bad as the first story in my opinion.

Finally, just the other day this happened. I was doing an inspection out in Forest Ranch, CA. It's about 15 miles up highway 32 to from Chico, CA. First to get there, all the maps and direction sites have you going down this road that ends abruptly at a steel gate crossing the road. This of course is only about 2 miles down the road from the subject. So, to get there I end up having to drive for 30 minutes down dirt and gravel roads up and down the side of a mountain to get to the subject. The subject was located on 20 Acres and was foreclosed on in June it looks like. It looked like the owners had just got in their car and drove away. I know this isn't all that unusual with REO property, but there were some fairly expensive items left at this house, as well as sentimental items and decorations. It looked like the home could still be occupied. The whole exterior was littered with personal property too. Well I'm out inspecting the property, walking around the lot looking at things, and then I start hearing this sound of metal pipes clanging together. This continued for about 5 minutes or so, then it returned to silence. The longer I was there the more it felt like I was in some 'B' horror film and someone or something was going to jump out of the bushes at me at any second. I was completely isolated with no one nearby at all and it was incredibly creepy.

Wealthy family, dad died years ago, now mom died. Estate appraisal.

The property had three bedrooms that I could not enter because she never threw away a magazine, Christmas card etc. for 70 years. One bedroom had wicker furniture stacked to the ceiling. Mom slept in the living room. Basement was basically unaccessible.

There was one bathroom, it was carpeted, the lady raised four sons, the carpet was 30 years old. No matter what any man tells you, sometimes they cannot aim.
