I am (finally) looking into purchasing a laser tape measure and don't know which one to get. I can't spend a fortune, but want to get one that is easy to use (mostly for 2nd story interior measuring) and is cost effective. Any ideas??? Thanks for the input...

I love my Stanley Fat Max Laser ...about $100 at Home Depot...you can probably get a real deal on Amazon.

Disto A-3, don't measure a home without it.

I don't take my shoes off.

I have a Fat Max - the one that triangulates. It was on sale really cheap on Home Depot's website on a Christmas eve, for only a few hours, but I got it for $99 and it retailed at $250. It adds and subtracts, so if you don't have a good target, like at the end of the house, you can use the fence, then walk to the end of the house, measure from the house to the fence and subtract to get the length of the house. I'm sure it does other things I haven't figured out yet.

As for the best - only someone who's used different models and compared than can say. But I was happy with my Fat Max.

2 issues to consider - bright sunlight and monopod. In bright sunlight it can be hard to see the laser. You can aim at eaves where it's darker and the spot shows up. As for monopods, they would make your triangulation a lot more accurate.

Oh, and all seem to work equally well for playing with the dogs and cats. :-)

Smokey Bear, thank you...I forgot that part....the kitties at my house gave the FatMax an A+ rating.:)

I would suggest the disto...I love mine. But I would highly suggest getting one with a built in scope on it....because it makes finding the laser WAY easy. I also have a fat max....and it's okay (no scope) ..but the disto kicks it's a**

My only experience is with the Disto, but you will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands to get me to give it up.

Do these distos measure well on the exterior? Inside is easy because you can't point at a wall but on the exterior can a laser measure a corner wall without pointing at something? Are there any tricks to this?
