I just closed my Efax account with "E-Fax". When I started, it was free. Then the free ran out, and it was 16.95/mo to get unlimited incoming faxes and .10 a page(or minute actually) to send.

After about 90 days on the paid service...I started getting random 10 dollar charges on my Checking account from Efax...The first one slipped by me, as I thought it was part of the billing cycle. When I called about the second one...I was told that it was put in a reserve account "just in case" I exceeded my free stuff...or if I decided to send a fax, they would have a buffer.

I Looked over my terms of service, and sure enough I had agreed to that.
It has been around 2 years of these random 10 dollar charges, sometimes 2 times a month...so I called today to see how big my buffer account was.

Let me just say that I have never sent one page of faxes with Efax...not one.

Also, let me say that the most pages I have ever received in a month probably wouldn't exceed 20 or 30. I only appraise part time so...not too many faxes. Many months go by where I get no faxes at all.

I was told today that my account was 16.95/mo, and .10 per page for every page that comes in starting on page 1...and that I had NO money in my buffer, and that was why they charged me the extra 10 bucks yesterday.

Needless to say, I canceled my account on the spot.

So, my question is...

Who is a reputable company to do internet faxing with and what are the REAL costs?

Thanks in advance.

I bought a fax machine for $89. The refills (i use maybe 2 a year) are $20..less on Amazon. With a splitter it works well with a home number that I don't use for anything but DSL anyway. I guess I just don't get what is supposed to be such a good deal about an "online" system.

One positive is that the faxes arrive in your e-mail, so you can pick them up in the field on your phone etc.

Plus, you get that fancy sattellite thingy.

I like Myfax, as well.

Positives of internet faxes, along with being able to receive them anywhere, include not having junk faxes coming to your home office in the morning. Also, when I forget to pick up a CSM or deed in a county that doesn't have internet access, the fax is received in a PDF format and I don't have to scan it in to put it in my report.

I wouldn't go back to a land-line.

I've had my old fax machine for about 15 years. I see no reason to change. When it bites the dust, I figure I won't last much longer either.
