Getting ready to plop down about $140 for my first GPS. Anybody else have this model?

Any comments ( + / - ) would be appreciated.

I dont think the models matter that much unless its the features your looking for.

Maps are updated yearly but they cost 80.00 bucks. Sucktion cup does not work to well when the weather heats up.

Its alot better than looking up streets in the TB map book and gives you a pretty good estimated time of arrival.

Have you seen the new goodie from Bing maps [formerly Live]? You can download your saved collection into your Garmin! It does not plan a route but it does save everything to "favorites" Mmmm, nice! :new_multi:

Whatever car I buy I make sure it has a navigation system
however years ago I had garmin and think they are the best

I bought a 200W for my girlfriend. Not good. It will often take very, very long to find the satellites, sometimes 20+ minutes, or not find them at all. It has occasionally shown the wrong postion by more than several blocks. In short, a POS. I do have a Garmin 60Csx that works great, but its not really designed for street navigation, more for hiking and off-roading.

I have a Garmin 2610 Street pilot Cost me $800 about 51/2 years ago. It came with City navigator software. Expensive yes. You can plot all your comps and subject on your computer and upload them to the GPS. That is what I like about it. You can see boundaries main roads ETC. There are updated versions I am sure. I like the computer lay out. Finds everything.

I have the Garman nuvi 200w. I need to download the updated maps which I think is a $45.00 fee. I received it for Xmas in 2007. Love it! I do not know how I was able to appraise without it. Instead of the suction cups, I use velcro and attach on the dash where it is easier to reach and is not a display feature for theives.

I especially love it while on vacation and in unknown territories. It's great for locating the new golf courses out of state you have never been to.

Bought what was for me a no-name "MIO" 2nd GPS.
Huge screen, software much easier/better than my Magellan in terms of adding
one destination or doing a route for Subject + 8 comps I need to photo.
It's actually a GPS enabled PDA.
I'd look into something along those lines...or simply buy a starter/cheapie at COSTCO,
then when figure out what you really want, well, they do have a time-unlimited return policy.

Pass on the 205w since it does not have Text-to-Speech (Spoken Directions in Real Street Names) or Multi-Point Routing. Go right to the top with a Garmin nuvi 855 GPS from Meijer for $206 After Coupon code ADA15 [Exp 7/31] + $8 Shipping = $214. Link
