Continued Tax Breaks for the Rich?

Apparently some of us are confused by the tone of your posts.

We are hearing "communistic tendancies" when, in reality, you're saying "class envy/jealousy" and are merely suggesting wealth redistribution from the inherently evil and undeserving upper class.

There are those that argue that capitalism cannot survive in a democracy because sooner or later, the ranks of those at the bottom (the takers) will outnumber the ranks of those from whom it is being taken. I think the last presidential election shows that we are near or at that tipping point.

We are well past the tipping point. :new_all_coholic:

I don't worry about it too much though. Wealth redistribution schemes always fail. The poor will always give me back the money taken through the same poor decision process that made them poor in the first place. It will be a bit rougher this time around since a refresh of the governmental system is likely to be necessary. When lawmakers start fleeing the state because they can't get their way, it is a sign the ballot box is starting to fail us.

I think they call it the NC Edumacation Lottery around here.

Yes, that is a great way to fund education programs since the more ignorant you are, the more you contribute to education programs through the lottery. :clapping:

Let's review shall we:

Tell me, in the economic system in which we live, whose job is it to see that one is happy, educated, employed, fed, housed and clothed? The rich? The government? Who?

So the rich, by virtue of their wealth, must be greedy and corrupt! And it's their mission in life to create jobs otherwise they're just hoarding. The next obvious step in your logic is that if they are not sufficiently responsible with their wealth then it should be taken away and given to someone who will be more responsible. Like the government?

America, love it my way or leave it? So one's economic choices must comport with your desired outcomes or there is no place for them in this country. Start down that road and the last one out can turn out the lights!

One of the key features of a socialism is a planned economy. The government, in its wisdom and for the good of all, orders the resources and talents of its citizens to achieve a desired result.

The vitriol you attribute to Fox News is disgusting but your portrayal of the rich is what, a breath of fresh air?

Looks like I've really ruffled your fur. If you think you are the teacher, let me tell you that an old dog like you will have a hard time teaching an even older dog like me new tricks.

It is the job of every American to take responsibility for their own personal situation. Hopefully those that cannot, thru no fault of their own, will not be discarded because they have no worth in the eyes of corporate America. Should Social Security and Medicare be eliminated? How about SSI disability, are you getting any of that?

I have no envy or hatred for wealthy people. Even I could probably be considered wealthy by others of lesser economic means. Neither do I admire them just because they are wealthy. I admire and respect those the most who started with nothing and worked honestly and ethically to earn their money, taking care not to destroy other people in the process for their own personal gain. For those born with a silver spoon in their mouth, they should thank their parents and be grateful. I don't advocate taking away their wealth, unless they made it thru illegal means. Bernie Madoff and Scott Rothstein are surely not the only ones who belong behind bars. Why isn't the SEC and the Justice Department doing anything about these crooks on Wall Street?

Corporations get tax breaks to move to an area and hire the locals. Who pays their taxes? The residents. When the tax breaks end, or when the people demand higher pay (the evil labor union) the company just moves overseas and everybody loses their job. Shame on the workers for even thinking that they are worth more. Where did the corporate profits go? To the shareholders, who hopefully paid their fair share of taxes.

America is a free country. If somebody doesn't feel they have any responsibility to help pay for the privilege of living, working and profiting here, they can always leave. Bon voyage.

Lastly, for those who have chosen to lecture me about the evils of communism and/or socialism, I can tell you that I know the misery and suffering first hand. Do you? My wife left her family in Cuba 45 years ago with nothing but the clothes she was wearing. Fidel and his gang of thugs took her father's store and all the family's money in the bank. For the last 30 years we have tried to help her family with some basic necessities, whenever we can. Jobs pay $12 per month, $20 if you are a doctor. I have visited her home town and let me tell you, it was terribly depressing. The revolution was brought on by years of greed and corruption under Batista. The people just wanted change and look what they got...an even more brutal military dictatorship masquerading as communism. Those in power have all the niceties of life, don't kid yourself. Nothing much has changed for 53 years because the people are disarmed and brainwashed. Could a revolution happen here? All depends on how much greed and corruption Americans can tolerate.

Looking forward to further lectures from my critics. :D
Have a nice evening Calvin.

So you are comparing modern day USA with Batista Cuba? Maybe Obama is slightly dictator like, but he's more Castro than Batista. Or maybe that's your point... So hows that working out for them? I think you summed it pretty well there comrade.

Here's my (unsolicited) thoughts on your thoughts...in red.

It is the job of every American to take responsibility for their own personal situation. Totally agree, but unfortunately a big percentage of our country are not into personal responsibility. I guess a lot of us are just getting tired of this lack of personal responsibility. Hopefully those that cannot, thru no fault of their own, will not be discarded because they have no worth in the eyes of corporate America. Should Social Security and Medicare be eliminated? Nope. How about SSI disability, are you getting any of that? In some cases that I am aware of yes the SSI should be eliminated from the lazy bums. In the vast majority of cases, SSI serves a useful purpose.

In a sense you did advocate it when you said the small wealthy percentage should pay a greater percentage of taxes. Bernie Madoff and Scott Rothstein are surely not the only ones who belong behind bars. Why isn't the SEC and the Justice Department doing anything about these crooks on Wall Street? Don't know on this, you might want to ask Obama. But, the Bernies of the country should really be wearing their pants low...in a prison.

Corporations get tax breaks to move to an area and hire the locals. Who pays their taxes? The residents. Here, you might want to blame the local politicians that set up the deal and the local tax payers that did not tell their elected officials not only no but h*** no. Sorta like asking the taxpayers to build a new stadium for a pro football team. I would think the owner's of the team should build the stadium. When the tax breaks end, or when the people demand higher pay (the evil labor union) the company just moves overseas and everybody loses their job. Agreed. I do believe these companies should pay higher taxes or some other form of penalty for yanking jobs out of the country. Some jobs though are just not worth more than what the company is paying & the unions need to accept that fact.

Bon voyage. Boy, that is gonna be one full boat, since almost half of the population does not pay taxes.

Nothing much has changed for 53 years because the people are disarmed and brainwashed. Could a revolution happen here? All depends on how much greed and corruption Americans can tolerate. Some day, American union members might come to realize just how much greed and corruption there is in their own union. (I was a member of a teacher union...NEA... for 15 years.) Many of the union officials make way more than their unions members make at their jobs. For a bunch of years the grocery store union in NE Ohio used to hire non union people to go picket grocery stores that were not union! Oh, they paid them minimum wage. Go figure.

Oh yeah, I happen to be one of those flat tax type of nuts. NO matter how much or how little you make (earned, unearned, dividends, interest, etc.) you should pay xx% in income tax. No exemptions, no loop holes. If your 6 month old baby makes $2.00 in interest on their new savings account, the kid will have xx% interest withheld. Boy, old Bill Gates will be digging deep. In 1970, (I was an E4 in the USAF) I paid more federal income tax than Ted Kennedy. I had no outside income or interest...just my USAF check. After that, some how or other I always had trouble believing the great democrat liberal line that they are there for the little guy. BS.:peace:

No, just speaking about the potential consequences of excessive greed and corruption. Thanks for the compliment. You too have a nice evening, Mr. Jerk. (just thought I'd throw that in there, because it seems forum rules about being nice and no name calling are evidently not enforced) :D

Thank you for your thoughtful and courteous response. Nothing more enjoyable than having respectful discourse.

That is both funny and true......along with some sadness. I saw a study that showed the poorest census tracts buy the most lottery tickets. That is truly sad.

I have never bought a lottery ticket and don't have a clue how it all works. All I know are the odds against winning and how hard I work for my income.

I'm confused a bit. First I'm not sure to whom your remark was intended.

Second I am curious about something. When you suggested that I was a coward earlier was it because of the fact that I've never been in the service, or because of what I said in my post?
