Hi folks. I was thinking of getting out of the appraisal business. Does anyone know how one surrenders an appraisal license in California? I looked on the Office of Real Estate Appraisers website but I could not find this information. If anyone knows, I would really appreciate any info. Thanks.

Just let it expire, I'm sure no one can stop you. I know there are a lot of appraisers that would love to be certified, it's a shame.... BTW welcome to the forum.

Go to the State Licensing board with hand gun and surrender your license when they say SURRENDER YOUR WEAPON! Or you can sell it to an illegal immigrant for $25,000! Or, you know, just let it expire.

I think it involves becoming a reviewer for landsafe. [rim shot]

I think if one has made the decision to quit appraising, then one should actively surrender their license.
A. OREA has no authority to investigate non-licensed persons. You give up your license, you don't have to worry about them.
B. A surrendered (and, presumably deactivated) license will probably eliminate fraud-risk after the surrender date.

Another appraiser I know told me she made the decision not to renew her license. I'd wish she'd reconsider, but she doesn't make rash decisions and I'm confident she's given it appropriate consideration. So, I'm assuming you've given it appropriate consideration as well.

Good luck!

Yeah....just don't renew.

You might want to explore placing it on an inactive status if that is available in CA. That way if you ever decide to get back into appraising you want have to start over.

In OK, you must surrender the card to "quit" or you end up on the Registry.

Put it in an envelope with a copy of the following and a note that says thanks for the memories and mail it in.

I there any practical difference between that scenario and one where OREA sends you a complaint letter, and you send your license in at that point?
