i said dormer and in my market i have dormers on nearly every col i inspect. i was never talking about a cape COD where maybe i inspect 1 out of every 50-60 reports or so, or 1 months worth.

its just 2 a day. how hard is that?

so, this is the classified top super secret way to use this very complex device called a wheel, lol...

face either side of a dormer and line up one side of the dormer with one of your eyes (pupil center). now let your stick dangle like a pendulum from your belly button (this is your center line) so you know where to place the wheel at on the ground. since you are using your centerline you need to be cognizant of the distance from your nose to the center of your eye (1.5 inches for me). now just stop when you get to the end of the wall reestablish your center line and you have your super secret magical dormer width!!! reconcile your 1.5 inches on each end and you have your measurement.

this is like the 50th time ive been asked how i do what i do but i dont mind. i aim to please!

start at the left, measure the porch. walk to the right end of the dormer, hit the minus key on my disto, measure to end of porch again. poof. dormer width.

based on your posts and bragging, though it is really more like exposing problems, you are the literal definition of a "skippy" as this forum likes to say. i personally never liked that term but it has developed into a recognized description on here.

ive been measuring like this for 23 years, its a 3 second gig. now what if (as in my market) you have a wide dormer over a 2g which i get on probably 30 reports a month. you are not using a disto because there is no porch to target off of. and thats my point. ive bought 4 lasers and taken them all back because they cannot make that measurement from the outside. now take a big house like i have in my market 3500 to 5000sf that have multiple dormers and your disto is a paper weight but im glad it works well for you.
