State License In Mass/anyway To Grandfather To Certified?

needed to be raised because so many idiots were coming in because many of them just didn't have the intelligence necessary for the job. Same with nursing, teachers, etc. Some people just don't have the intelligence necessary for those jobs.
a fatuous argument. The college degree is meant only to do one thing. Winnow the herd. Time and again we've seen people fake a degree and operate as doctors, lawyers, and engineers. I knew one that lied about his degree at Kent State and lied about getting a Doctorate in geology. Turned out he never finished his doctoral thesis only when an astute lawyer in a trial had a background check ran when he said he had a doctorate from Oklahoma University. "OU" is the University of Oklahoma and few people would say "Oklahoma University" despite the "OU"...The man "faked it" for 20 years.

The only resolution is to take out a loan and do and pursue an on line degree. Some colleges will count "life experience" for hours. The worst out there is "good enough" to be called "degreed".

Ok, a little bit of a side step because you really didn't address my main point of intelligence. You touched on ethics though.

No college teaches the kind of ethics we need and "situational" ethics is the least useful. Business ethics basically teaches that if not arrested, you are ethical.

There has been a TREMENDOUS amount of discussion about this over the years and the bottom line is that the new rules were announced years ago so that everyone who might be negatively affected had plenty of time to upgrade their credentials before the deadline. It is unfortunate that you were not compelled to do so within the time parameters but there is likely no exception for you at this point.

Motivation was not my problem. Thanks for the comment.

Senior Electrical Designer.

I asked because of another thread.

You can have an associates degree and get your PE. Sure it takes a few more years but at least it's in sight. The end game is a 6 figure+ income.

Appraisers can enjoy $20 an hour that requires a 4 year degree (in anything) plus hundreds of additional hours of class and a 10lb log book. It truly doesn't make sense.

Perhaps the AQB will see this, sooner than later, before the profession becomes extinct.

Thank you all for taking the time to discuss this issue with me. I will just have to go after a bachelors degree in my "spare" time. :)

I have been in the engineering field for years and wanted a change. I know, I know. Not that smartest move in the world but when I made the decision the appraisal industry was a 1000 times different then it is today and I thought I could start my own firm and be successful without a college degree. Which 1000's of people do everyday in 1000's of ways. Oh well. I'll just have to make some tough decisions. Just a shame all the work, hours, money and schooling to get my state license is for not. They should really just delete the "state license" because I have not met a bank yet that will accept it without a certified supervising which severely limits my options to make any real money.

I am doubtful on the degree requirement for more than one reason.

Face it, the government realized that the standards needed to be raised because so many idiots were coming in because many of them just didn't have the intelligence necessary for the job. Same with nursing, teachers, etc. Some people just don't have the intelligence necessary for those jobs. The degree requirement eliminates a bunch of those people that I am sure the government has seen and blackballed by revoking their licenses, sometimes because of intelligence and sometimes because of ethics. The degree requirement limits the intelligence requirement drastically. One can't be stupid from an IQ standpoint and enter the field due to the degree requirement.

There are many professions that are the "same" way.

The 4 year degree requirement is a sham. I know countless people with 4 year degrees who if the degree were not able to be verified, one would seriously question whether they even graduated high school.

And I also know people with no degrees who are brilliant who I would hire as a trainee in a heartbeat..
