No more testing appliances?

Nothing has really changed. From the revised 4000.1:

i. Definition

Appliances refer to refrigerators, ranges/ovens, dishwashers, disposals, microwaves, and washers/dryers.

ii. Standard
Appliances that are to remain and that contribute to the market value opinion must be operational.

iii. Required Analysis and Reporting
The Appraiser must note all appliances that remain and contribute to the Market Value.

Yep, I agree. Nothing really changed.

A dishwasher typically takes over 1 hour to cycle/operate.

Close door, push button, listen for a normal sound, wait a few moments, turn off, open door.

You're not testing appliances.

You're operating them to see if they work.

Testing is for inspectors,
operating is for people who are not inspectors.

Don't let the slight of hand language be construed as you are not operating appliances.
