Grass Eater (Herbivore Boy) refers to men who are not interested in dating, sex, or marriage. These men have decided to live a life without a partner or even a romantic relationship as a way of turning their back on “macho ways.” They find it safer both emotionally and financially to stay single and celibate.

MGTOW (”Men Going Their Own Way”) is a statement of self-ownership, where the modern man preserves and protects his own sovereignty above all else. It is the manifestation of one word: “No”. Ejecting silly preconceptions and cultural definitions of what a “man” is. Looking to no one else for social cues. Refusing to bow, serve and kneel for the opportunity to be treated like a disposable utility. And, living according to his own best interests in a world which would rather he didn’t.

The Grass Eater thing is in Japan and (reportedly) isn't limited to just men - apparently women are also foregoing long term relationships, too. Much of this is driven by the economics of what it takes to establish and operate households and families.

MGTOW is a western thing and it seems to mostly consist of guys who hate feminism and who have sworn off long term relationships on the basis that the benefits of relationships with women don't justify the costs of dealing with women. With more overt hostility toward feminists, but also a general contempt for women in general. LOTS of crass and truly repulsive (IMO) objectification of women among some of these guys.

I'm seeing this as two separate motivations with some overlap, but in economic terms having significant long term ramifications.

One more tidbit to throw into the mix:

The Statistics Canada General Social Survey of the family has been asking Canadian men and women about their fertility intentions for decades with this question, “How many children do you plan to have, including the ones that have already been born or you are expecting at this time?”

When this question was first asked in 1990, more women than men expressed a disinterest in having children. Among childless men and women between the ages of 15 and 44, 15 per cent of women said they had no desire to have children in the future compared to only 10 per cent of men. Additionally, more men than women expressed a desire to have children in every age group and regardless of whether they were married, single, cohabitating, or divorced.

As expected, the share of women who wish to remain childless has increased over time, up to 23 per cent in 2011, but contrary what we are being told, the share of men who wish to remain childless has increased by even more, almost doubling to 19 per cent.

While the media seems fixated on women who are choosing to forgo motherhood, the trend in men is much more interesting. It seems that in an era in which women are making a bigger contribution to the household income, and in which men are expected to dedicate more hours to parenting, men are responding by acting more like women: they are willing to forgo parenthood all together.[/quote

MDTOT, Men Doing Their Own Thing.

Self owned, not disposable, cares to some extent what other people think. Cares about the decent ones.
Does what he wants to do, doesn't do what he does not want to do, unless he is stuck with it.
Or helps one of the decent people, even perhaps a stranger. Kinder gentler than MGTOW.

So in reference to (per the Canadian Gov't survey) 19% of men not wanting children and 23% of women not wanting children - and those numbers are trending up - what does that mean over the long term?

And they wonder why sperm count is down,

or if it even matters.

It's good for overpopulation.

Uhm...less people I suppose. So who cares other than businesses that expect increased profits from more people over-time. If we have less people, we will produce less, but to the average person, it wont matter because its all relative. This is a weird thread dude. In terms of appraisal/real estate value, some markets may see a decrease in values as land becomes less scarce.

So are the people not having kids super smart or really dumb, cause that could change things.

It pretty much doesn't matter,
if they can't pass on their genetics.
