Does anyone know of a good app or online source that calculates square footage? I no longer have the residential software I used to have that had Sketch it on it.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

sketchup is free. It isn't as good (simple) as it used to be, but there are plenty of tutorials.

I believe you can actually download the a la mode total app and sketch it out. It's free.

Farmers Soul:

Welcome to the forum. Another source is Google Earth Pro. I use to pay $400 per month or year I can't remember which but it has been free for at least 5 or more years now. Personally, I do not know how anyone appraises without it but it is fairly easy to measure larger building but does take some practice. Many residential appraisers have used it but cry it does not work (boohoo). No...it works, the operator simply does not know how to work it LOL. In all seriousness it is harder to measure smaller buildings but you can put dimension into its the skyview. The other softwares are great for measuring smaller properties but when it comes to larger buildings Google Earth Pro is effective. So I would say what is best is dependent on what it is being used for.

Stephen - I also like Google Earth Pro - great program. I've found that ArcGIS, in my opinion, is better. I think that both the measuring tool and the crispness of the aerial view is better. However, Google Earth Pro is still solid. ArcGIS is just another option (and it is also free).

Did not know that ArcGIS was free now. When we first looked into subscriptions a lot of people said very good things about it. However, Google Earth Pro (the old subscription) use to have traffic counts. It was a lot faster (when doing retail) than going to the DOT sites (first letter generally depends on state). I will have to look into to it. Is it hard to use?

Minor learning curve, but nothing ridiculous. It's a different interface then Google Earth Pro. Many of the same functionalities - I just think that it is more crisp and accurate.

I am intrigued. How does one go about measuring a building with google earth pro? Can some one please point me in the right direction.

The traffic counts were so convenient. I miss those.
