True, but it is backed up by lab based science, so maybe it is a real life example of the lab based experiment. Not all that much anecdotal evidence has science to back it up. I think it was Nebraska, but not entirely sure, that left mask mandates up to the individual county. As some counties enacted mask mandates and others didn't there was a nice little map that showed the effects of wearing a mask and not wearing a mask based on test results. That held for a while until the state became just generally overwhelmed.

Citing piles of references without having read them isn't support, hence my comments. As someone who personally spent a whole lot of time going through references and footnotes (physics grad), it's obviously that all of the references won't necessarily support the article. Particular references may be cited, but contradictory data may be included in the referenced study that is not included in the current article.

I've been reading studies on face masks for months. And that's why I don't wear them. The efficacy of the masks is such that there is a good chance that one will catch the virus wearing a face mask for months on end of being exposed to a viral environment.

I only wear respirators (N95+) on appointments.

I have also gone through a ton of data and am convinced that face masks work. an N95 mask is the best mask, but cloth masks are better than no mask and will slow the spread of the virus. You can go to the CDC page to get up to date information on the efficacy of cloth masks.

For every scientist or study that says "x". You can find an equally reputable scientist or study that says "y". Not agreeing or disagreeing. Just sayin'.

This is a good way to get you to believe no science at all. There are contradictory studies most definitely, but there is scientific consensus. If you don't believe when there is a scientific consensus then that is on you. Good luck making sense of the world.

The problem with mask studies in that they are all conducted in a clinical situation (hospital, health facility, etc.) whereas none of the studies are really based on "community use" (the term the researchers call it.) Thus, they are extrapolating a study from a controlled environment with health professionals to the common everyday use of the mask. A few years ago a medical journal editor resigned saying that most of the articles they printed were junk science.

Fraudulent publications abound in medical and science fields. Every report should be viewed with a jaundiced eye.

I don't disagree with the problem of junk science, it just doesn't apply here.

I use the term respirator to distinguish it, as is done in the medical community, from masks that are not respirators.

While I am not concerned about catching this, we are in NY, and I'm not going to places others at risk in their own personal residences by wearing cloth or ASTM Level 1 surgical masks. I'll stick with the ASTM Level 3 respirators when inspecting others homes, because the science says they are way more protective than what most people are running around with.

If you are asymptomatic, I think the regular masks protects others rather than the person wearing them. We still don't don't know if a person that has been vaccinated, can't spread it. In other words, I am fine with the CDC on 90% + efficacy on the vaccine. This thing is mutating now too. It don't have any plans on dying.

Cases are higher, because we have increased testing. The testing is horribly inaccurate and hospitals are incentivized to code everything as COVID which gets them more government funding.

No 300,000+ people have NOT died of COVID. It is doubtful that 200,000 have died with COVID because of the inaccurate testing and aforementioned hospital money grab.

In shocking news, deaths from the regular old flu and pneumonia are way down! Or are they just coded as COVID?

Unless you are over 80 or already have one foot in the grave due to poor health, your chance of dying from COVID is very, very low.

If you do NOT have symptoms, the chance of passing COVID to another person is less than 1%.
If you do have symptoms, the chance of passing COVID to another person is only 18%.

Addressing the Mask Karens, every mandate has consequences. Over one billion masks have entered our oceans in 2020.

I am seeing a lot more people who are visibly sick in public hiding behind masks because of the false sense of security that masks give the masses.

The Left Coast Looney States have shut down small businesses since November and many have permanently closed.

Eviction moratoriums have meant unpaid rent and owners have to settle for only 80% when the government (your tax dollars) decide to make up the difference.

Meanwhile, the consequences of these lockdowns have increased deaths from drug overdoses and suicide which are now greater than the actual deaths from COVID.

Also, these new gene therapy shots (Not an actual vaccine) will not keep you from catching or spreading COVID.
