About this product

Product Information
The American Measurement Standard(r) is a voluntary standard for the measurement of residential square footage. For those professionals who choose to provide this service, the AMS(r) helps to promote the public's trust, as well as offering a consistent, reliable, reproducible, and defensible source for the methodology utilized in the collection and communication of square footage for single-family dwellings. The employment of a written "statement of square footage" is encouraged for the advancement of professionalism and consumer protection, by all those that create and communicate residential square footage data. In this, the information age and the era of technology, it is our sincere hope that the real estate industry will embrace the adoption of a universal measurement standard, mandate it, and educate all professionals about the importance of credible living area data. One industry, one standard.

standardization is socialism , it never works, and is misery for all. any innovation is squashed unless the "elite" ruling class approves. the problem there is they are located in a bubble and disconnected from reality. Heil Ansi

Curious, as my firm has been locked into ANSI for years without problems or complaints. Not perfect, certainly, but it’s a standard and it’s consistent.

If you haven‘t used ANSI, then what standard have you used? Please don’t respond with “none”.

The world revolves around consolidation then follows with decentralization. Be it governments, corporations, industries, etc.

yes, the "voluntary" standard which have been incorporated by reference by incorporation by reference is a corporation dream :giggle:

standardization is socialism , it never works...

Is it ironic that you posted this view on an Internet forum that no one could access/view if there were not accepted standards for web site content?

in one hand the gse's want a tenth of inch, and on the other they do not want appraisers to personally inspect the property. i couldn't even make this doublethink up

Appraisers are just there so that they can be blamed later. Just like all the "reviews" and "quality" inserted by the clients in to appraisals, that let racially biased reports flow through the system with ease, until the borrower is ticked.
