I'm no fan of any on line class and a couple of McKissock classes (1 live, 1 on line) over the past 20 years ... well, not impressed.

But I had to have USPAP and Arkansas required live classes until Covid, so the classes have to be web based where you are visible in a camera. It was an option, and being split over 2 days, I had Thursday and today 12-3:30, taught by Rob McClelland. I was wondering about Webex - no prior experience, but only used Zoom before. And I anticipated a rehash of the last USPAP since the book had not changed.

What a pleasant surprise. The emphasis was on the Advisory Opinions in addition to some history of the USPAP format (though I've lived thru the whole last 30 years) and Rob was an excellent instructor. All in all I am impressed with both the instructor, the material and the functionality of the Webex program.

I have little doubt I won't renew 2 years from now. But again, I thought McKissock did well. The half day over 2 days format is great for us geezers (less tiring) and Rob McClelland did a superb job of presentation...and I have to even give USPAP credit for a far better student manual than I thought I would see.

old geezer's have bad memories. we need to repeat the same classes every 2 years. it's punishment for not retiring. i loved the 2 day live USPAP webinar. i love the live webinars. can work while i listen. teachers have been pretty good.

Love that... Did you take the same class ?- I saw 2 names from Arkansas that I recognized. If I heard right there were 52 people in the class.

The online program was the same. IMO, the same regurgitated info every year with maybe 2-3 little nuggets of updated or new info.

Luckily, the online version can be completed in about 2 hours if you skip the childish cartoon videos and go straight to the quizzes and tests.

TGIF. Thank God I'm Finished taking these classes. I waited until now to start the CE because I really wasn't sure if I was going to renew.

I don't know what your National Update Class was like this time. It was supposed to be focused around bias and about how to use the USPAP publication to answer questions for yourself. It's possible that an individual USPAP instructor didn't make that clear.

Yes he did cover that, we did have a bias discussion, but it was a lot about finding answers via the AOs and FAQs and how Statements got retired and/or incorporated into the documents. It was sort of like George Bush I negotiating with Saddam pre-desert storm...he was constantly OBE - overtaken by events - as one aide put it. They simply became obsolete.

As a funny aside, I got my certificate and sent the pdf to the state and got an email back saying it had no name or class dates on it./?? Well, my copy did so I am not sure how those things are copied to the certificate but apparently as fields as it certainly weren't on the certificate he returned from the board???

That has to be a pdf glitch. I don't recall ever seeing it before, but I have had terrible issues getting a pdf digital signature to "stick" before.

Their courses are pretty good. They have a series on appraising Custom Luxury homes, as well. But, next year, I'll have to take AI course to get my hours in.

I completed two McKissock on-line "expert witness" courses. The subject is complex and fascinating. Can I take a "similar" course from the Appraisal Institute for credit? Who decides whether a course from different providers qualifies for addition CE credit?

Your state appraisal board decides which courses are good for CE credit. Most states have a process where you can submit a course you've taken that wasn't approved, pay a fee, and get credit. So... Check with your appraisal board.
