Hi Guys, your input is appreciated.

What is the Proper Procedure to Retire from appraising
1) Besides just saying No to client assignments or deleting their email-contact
is it necessary : to contact all clients to inform them to remove me from "active duty" & thereby cancelling (any) Initial Sign-up Documents ? ( I have contacted two clients & received a Letter from both acknowledging my request to be removed from their Active List. )
2) OR simply- by not renewing license I would respectfully be removed from being applicable to receive GSE federal related appraisals?
3) Do I need to contact the State Boards directly for any potential information I need to provide them? (No I have not contacted them yet. If a must...I will)
3) How long would you retain an E&O policy?
4) Do I need to contact any web or advertising pages that List my Appraisal Company? (Will be retaining RE Companies)
5) Yes, cancel all software products.

Thanks

When you quit responding to emails and phone calls it takes care of itself.

I could not image trying to find every web site I signed up on, over a decade and a half ago, in an effort to delete my contact information.

Alert your main clients, that just seems the right thing to do, instead of just not replying to assignments, etc. After a while, you can just filter your email or cancel your appraiser email completely.
I would also contact your state board with your intentions.
E&O--possibly the most important detail, I will defer to others, but if it is possible you could still be sued 3 years after retiring, I would want a policy still in place. They may require an active license for that, don't know. Again though, this seems a big piece of the puzzle.
Finally, troll this site for years after retirement. :)

My effort is not : to simply delete contact info, I could block.
In being respectful: I will contact my main clients.
My question is best efforts of proper procedure when & IF you signed a Contract for Service Agreement- bitd.

Thanks Overimprovement for your input. Yes, I would need to retain a license ...for E&O ...from my current carrier.
Perhaps a business-umbrella type policy.
GOAL: I no longer want the hoops to retain the appraisal licenses per states (education...etc.)

I would contact my main clients and let them know, but I've been working with the same people for a very long time. You could set up an autoreply email for the rest indicating you are no longer in the business.

In that case the terms of contract will dictate how you go about quitting.

"Tail coverage is a provision that provides coverage for incidents that occurred while you had your policy, but a claim wasn't filed until after your policy's expiration date."

I contacted alot of my clients but it went in one ear and out the other, still received requests for many years. 10 years later it has mostly stopped.

6) Find your business on Google Maps and mark it as Permanently Closed.

It’s the end of an era. Good time to quit. Everything will be different after this period. People that stay there will be a lot of starting over in the nuclear leveled landscape
