Unveiling the Truth: The Controversial Role of Data Collectors in Real Estate

With what AMCs pay their staff appraisers, I would not be surprised if they showed up to the inspection In a Speedo.
Ours was not a AMC but direct Lender who paid 100% of what we collected to the appraisers. But I digress, a Professional does not base his/her professionalism based on why they are paid. If they do not like the job they can quit and find new employment.

This attitude is what is advancing and accelerating the end of the Loan Production fee appraiser and not helping it survive.

We closed our in house fee panel and had it taken over by a Large AMC because, no matter what we paid, it made no difference in the quality and frankly everyone was sick and tired of dealing with the appraisers and their **** *** attitudes. I am the one who advised the owners to just close it down as it was no longer a positive to the company.

I would agree with that. Maybe you should tell the folks who run AMCs that.:)

Without the large AMCs as many as 50% of all independent fee appraisers would be out of business within a few weeks. And no the Banks and lenders do not want to manage them. They are not part of the Profit Center. Your living in the past :)

without large AMCs...you would get C&R, independence, and vacations :rof: :rof: :rof:

Having no work, many today are on permanent vacations, and many praying some AMC sends them some orders :)

The panel management and the appraisal engagement process at banks is all you need to know about the chief appraisers and their risk management teams. There are a lot of good people at banks.

The GSE - Nonbank - AMC triangle is a circus.

Yes there are -but I have also met some fine people in Large AMC management positions.
I have a niece who worked at one for over 8 years and she was well paid and loved it.
She made way more money at that large AMC, than she did when she was with Bank America.

I have no respect for appraisers that think it is acceptable to assign orders to lowest bidder mans. Those large AMC chief appraisers and their teams are clowns.

But then again, they are just providing what the GSEs accept so can't really blame them.

So you know of an appraiser staging an armed robbery of a cash courier and then hired by an AMC to complete an appraisal? Do you have a citation or link?
Specifically "armed robbery of a cash courier?" No. I mean, that is pretty specific. :)

Rape? Statutory rape? Arson? Assaulting a police officer? Drug trafficking? Yes. Ran into all that during my AMC days.

Just use your favorite search engine and enter "Appraiser convicted of [insert crime]" and you will get some examples.

The tens of thousands of people who perform residential real estate appraisals are just a subset of the population. Not sure why anyone would think that subset is immune from behavior exhibited by the general population.
