Reminds me of time when I thought of buying a $1,000,000 home in Atherton 30+ years ago.
It was cheapest home back then and I always wanted to buy cheapest home in expensive town.
The problem with the house is that the rear backs to a railroad tracks thus having train noise.
For my piece of peace and sleep, I couldn't buy that home just to have bragging right to live in most expensive zip code in nation.

Atherton is at top for 7th year in a row with a sales price of $8.3 million, an incrase of 5% from last year's $7.9 million. Median Bay Area (9 county) is up 6.6% from last year reaching $1.3 million in September according to CA Realtors. SF decreased in price but not other parts of Bay Area.

I never cared to live in Atherton because the land is flat and has no bay/ocean views.
However, it's located near Silicon Valley attracting tech power players as well as celebrities and athletes.
The home prices there are high because most lots there are more than an acre (rare in most Bay Area towns) thus allowing the rich to build larger homes and offer greater privacy.
