Kelly-Moore Paints halts operations, closes all stores

"Kelly-Moore Paints, founded in San Carlos in 1946, has abruptly halted operations and closed all of its stores after failing to secure a cash infusion to help it escape a financial quagmire brought on by asbestos claims."

Sad to see they closed. It was the go to place for paint contractors. My house mostly painted with their good paint. I use Home Depot paint for my rentals.

no it's because failing to secure a cash infusion to help it escape a financial quagmire brought on by asbestos claims. when did moore paints become kelly-moore. maybe the kelly part brought that asbestos issue with it. you know, merge a company with a past hazard problem. it now has become your problem.

I never had much luck with Kelly Moore or other low solids brands, especially Behr. I use Dunn Edwards or Benjamin Moore.

Tried Behr years ago. Not happy with it. Have stuck with Sherwin-Williams. Benjamin Moore is a little better the Sherwin-Williams. But their distribution around here is pretty limited to one high priced decorating retailer and ACE Hardware stores.

I go to an ACE hardware store called Emigh's.

In the past, many products had asbestos. Isn't there a statue of limitations?
If not, then I should have sued for asbestos in my properties. Asbestos abatement is expensive.

Painted the rental and the primary residence with Dunn-Edwards. Super happy with the way the rental turned out, extremely unhappy with the quality of the paint for our primary residence. The paint I acquired was right after that big freeze in Texas almost a couple years ago now. It was really substandard in quality.

We used to have a good quality T-111 type of exterior siding that we had to paint periodically till I covered it up with colored stucco over fiberglass mesh. Smartest thing I ever did, 10 years in and it still looks like it did the first day.

Anchor paint was my preferred paint brand, but Pittsburgh paints were usually pretty good.
