Lib universities, paying new price

That subtracts from the amount used for charity almost dollar for dollar. Again, it is YOU the taxpayer that picks up the tab and serves zero purpose. Just because you hate religion, at least understand that the churches are substantial part of the economy in a numprojectsber of ways.
Why should MY tax dollars pay for your church's pet project....
Do you like YOUR tax dollars paying for Harvard's pet projects....

Once everyone/company/institution/entity/etc pays taxes....
Then what they give to others is truly "CHARITY"....

Within 6 months of me moving to MA....
Harvard was in the news cycle regarding secretly purchasing properties....

I guess giving your students worthless degrees is being charitable. When my daughter was in a state university, the state gave them money. And when there was no inflation, the university tuition seemed to go up 5% each year.

In many professions you need a master's degree to make the good money. 2 years of master degree classes cost as much as 4 years of regular college. No one can afford to get a doctorate, you usually work for someone who can give you the free classes, like a university.

Just like for governments, burn the universities down.

Most PhD candidates are used by the university as teachers, prof assistants. This helps pay for a lot of their tuition. OTOH, a large % of graduating Phd's in STEM fields are foreigners with their rich families or their gov't paying.

I have a cousin that's a PhD professor at UC Berkely. He hasn't taught a class since 2017 (he brings in a lot of research grant $$ to the school). Even when he taught a couple of classes when UC first recruited him 20 yrs ago, he was rarely in the classroom; his PhD candidate assistants taught the classes. He is one of those guys doing research and writing the professional articles and books on AI. And I remember back when we traded comic books and argued over which superhero had the best super power. LOL!

Churches don't pay property taxes. Money losers for tax revenues.
Nonsense. Churches buy all sorts of taxable items, employees pay SS and income tax on their income. People who mow the church lawn pay taxes on that income, the equipment they own, and any employee's salary. The only tax relief they get is property taxes. Many non-profits also have tax benefits, and elderly and in some states, veterans get tax breaks. My state has a homestead exemption in addition to locking taxes down for property owners 65 and older. NY has the STAR tax relief program for owner-occupied homes.

Churches are not "tax free". They pay sales taxes on it all and the buildings are built by taxed contractors with taxable employees. Meanwhile Fern pays illegals to do cheap work and doesn't expect them to pay taxes or declare the income, and he ****ed sure isn't going to pay it for them.

Terrel....
Stop your digging....

Be real....
History has shown religion sucks the blood out of society....

No one can afford to get a doctorate,
Most doctoral students actually teach at the university, and many Master's students as well. I worked for the school museum in graduate school, then on a grant program studying deep waterwells in N. Arkansas. Another student actually wrote his master's on that same program. If a doctoral candidate is not offered a job at the University, that's where the fit hits the shan. There are more PhD.'s than there are professorships. So, suddenly they have no instructor job at the U and no prospect of a Univ. teaching job unless an engineering or other high demand job. They become Uber drivers or get a teaching certificate to teach in a high school...and few want a PhD HS teacher since it is assumed they will bail if they get a chance to teach at any college level.

Truth is that in many larger University settings, the professors teach very little. Their job is to generate research funds for the University and do research. It's these advanced students who taught all the undergraduate classes under the supervision of the professor whose name is on the class heading. Only small universities have much chance you get taught by the actual professor of record. As I walked past a large geological map once, there was a label stating the author was Professor zzz and someone had scribbled below "and 24 graduate students."

You can argue Fern contributes to economy in giving housing, paying business taxes, hiring contractors and workers, and such so don't give me excuse that Churches only ones doing good.
