Un supported adjustments

Yeah, and what difference does it make in the form filling world of abbreviations.
The difference is makes is if you write a clear, understandable report you are less likely to have revision requests. Everyone gets to choose how they conduct their business. I'd rather spend a little extra time getting it right than spend more time fixing it.

I try to write to the underwriter and any civilian reader, in simple english and visual aids to simplify our coded non civilian way of talking.

And so all those codes THAT NO BORROWER CAN UNDERSTAND WITHOUT THE CHEAT SHEET are simply clear and precise words???
Don't leave out appraisers not understanding all those codes either. Doesn't it usually go 50/50 on any posting here.

yes, you have to carry a check sheet or have good drop-down menus. Another reason I happily eschew the form and only do narrative.

Lemme see - authors who did not have a degree
Ray Bradbury
Truman Capote
Ernest Hemingway (maybe he doesn't count considering his style)
William Faulkner
John Steinbeck
H. G. Wells
Joseph Conrad
Danielle Steel

No one said that a degree is required to be a good writer. However, it is true that many people need instruction.... and one of the things that is taught in college is how to write.

From my days of reviewing most appraisers have no concept of making a readable report, where you can find whatever you need. Usually very disorganized and can't find anything easily with lack of effort in it's presentation. But, it's like that in every profession.

The biggest problem most writers have (myself included) is not proofreading their work.

In my experience, it is difficult to proofread one's own work. In my old firm, we always swapped reports and had another appraiser read it. It was really amazing the things that they found that were not found with spell check, etc.

Spell checker doesn't flag some transpositions, missing letters, etc. Form From, There, Their, They're, You're Your, Time, Tim, transmission transition, on and on.

I find without someone else to read it, you need to let it rest overnight then read it carefully the next day. I had a simple transposition that was caught by a lawyer and I corrected and looked at my template for years prior and it was repeated for years in my template. I may have read it at least 100 times. It can be difficult. In writing a book, I hired a retired teacher to proof read the book and after she did and found a few errors, I then found a couple more by simply reading my own book again.

Ditto in my office. Every report that went out was read by someone else first. Five to ten minor typo/errors was typical. We’d also flag sentences to be massaged for clarity or to eliminate and alternate interpretations. Great for private work but overkill for lender work nowadays.
