PAREA program

Perhaps a really good question or two - How many of the 23% non-white appraisers, or the 38% who are not male appraisers, have trainees? And for those who did have trainees, is there some underlying sinister issue involved if the color or sex of their trainees are white or male?

I believe if they had looked a little more sensibly at the numbers, all would have realized pretty quickly that education barriers or racial motivations were never the issue they proclaimed. This legislation will likely do little, although it gives political hay to fork.

i got a sticky note on my screen...it says 'do not low ball' :rof:

I doubt it differs much regardless color or sex. A lot of the female members of our local group have a trainee, but a high percentage of our appraisers are now working in bigger companies or working directly for a bank than they were 25 years ago.

It is a bust, mostly because it was used to give insiders cush jobs. But I do feel for aspiring appraisers who were sold an $8K online class, hoping no one went into debt.
I know there were a lot of scholarships. I just googled this:

The PAREA program, designed to train new appraisers, had 153 students enrolled in its inaugural class. The program has already seen 20 graduates. The Appraisal Institute also provides scholarship funds for PAREA, with $1.22 million available to cover entrance fees. Over the past six years, The Appraisal Foundation has awarded over 800 scholarships to aspiring appraisers.

The math just doesn't seem to math. I will give the Institute credit for trying. The numbers don't scream success though. One of the members in our chapter went through PAREA and I think she has a job right out of the gate.

20 grads out of 153 students? That's a higher fail rate than the BUDS for Navy SEALS-

maybe more than that. does the 153 equal total entrants?

I just googled it. I feel like the numbers are off. If there were 800 scholarships, why would there only be 153 entrants?

I think you're right. I don't think the demographics would change much either. That would be telling for those looking for smoking guns, when the very ones believed to be in the minority are doing the same as the majority.

The completions to-date will be always smaller than the total. Some participants won't finish at all.

There's a reason they keep the parea financials under lock and key. They are even worse than anyone here can imagine.

Why would anyone be shocked that no one wants to get into this profession? Look at how this profession is run. Hell, I'd run like hell away from here if I wasn't 25 years in. But it makes an ok side gig.

The managed decline of a profession. All by design too.
