Lidar vs. Disto - any thoughts?

Lidar sketch is $ per drawing. It doesn't do it for free. Take another $$ subtraction off the order fee.

I've never used Lidar. I really like that it generates a CAD like depiction of the dwelling. Interior walls, rooms, doorways, Etc. The finished product looks pretty slick.

I don't do interior walls in Total sketch. I'll throw in stairs, fireplaces, and open to below areas. But overall, my sketch is just the outline of the exterior with the names of the rooms.

The important part though, my sketch is accurate. Secondly, I don't have to pay extra to have a pretty sketch that I'm not getting any more compensation for.

When Lidar gets to the point of being accurate, with a simple walk through of the house that will generate the sketch and layout, then I'll look into it. That would be saving me time and worth the investment.
I'm working on wiring up a LiDar (Apple RoomPlan) 3D to 2D Ansi(ish) floor plan pipeline in my experimental inspection iOS app. Got a pretty decent floor plan / sketch app going (works without LiDar right now but idea is LiDar will pre-generate these then appraiser can modify/manipulate quickly after).

Funny how some won't rely on their cell phone to take simple photos but will throw their $500 disto (accurate to 1/16th of an inch) in the trash and rely on their cell phone to accurately measure improvements.

Marketing at it's finest.

What is the cost for the app or cost per sketch?

It looks like what I have on my Android phone from the play store called Ridgid Sketch. It's free and what I mainly use it for is checking myself when I get to the car. Sometimes I think "that didn't feel like 1600 ft or this feels way over 1600".

It would be really cool to walk through a house, have your cell phone measure it, and produce a drawing to blow into your appraisal reports. Until then, it's the laser, the measuring wheel, a fiberglass tape, along with a protractor for the angles.

Using a cell phone for appraisals doesn't make sense to me.

First off, I don't want to drop my $1,000 cell phone taking photos for an appraisal. Secondly, I don't want to mix work stuff with my personal life that's attached to the cell phone. I think the lowest resolution my phone goes is 10 megapixels which is just overkill for appraisal shots.

I download all my assignment photos in my work file even if they don't go into the report. My point and shoot setting is 5 megapixels. Saves a lot of SSD space. Even if I drop my point and shoot, which I won't because I have a wrist strap, I can still get the SSD card and stick it in my computer where the phone would be toast.

I think it's $25 0r $30 per sketch. Go to the web site it will tell you. And time wise isn't instant either.
