I made the below post about a year ago. I was not able to find any options back then but i am now hopeful that things have changed and there are new educational options. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I received the following information from the state of PA regarding the hours i will need to take to upgrade my license (see below). The problem that i am finding is that most Certified Genral courses were created to provide the 300 hours in total and are all double the hours i need in each respective area. Does anyone know of a program that is geared for upgrading your license? Thanks!

Just in case if someone were to ask! I already have my hours to upgrade my license!

F. Appraisers holding a valid Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser credential may satisfy the
educational requirements for the Certified General Real Property Appraiser credential by successfully
completing the following additional educational hours:
1. General Appraiser Market Analysis and Highest and Best Use 15 Hours
2. General Appraiser Sales Comparison Approach 15 Hours
3. General Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach 15 Hours
4. General Appraiser Income Approach 45 Hours
5. General Appraiser Report Writing and Case Studies 10 Hours
TOTAL 100 Hours

Thanks!!

The required hours for the various levels of licensing are set. There are no waivers. You will need to start contacting course providers to find one that will allow you to take individual classes rather than having to sign up for a package deal.

Talk to the course providers.

If you are a trainee, as shown in your Professional Status, you need 300 hours for CG.

I am already a Certified Residential Appraiser and I already have my 1,500 hours that is needed. I just need the above course work, but it doesn't seem that any of the vendors/schools offer the 15 hour courses. They only offer 30 hour courses. There was a vendor (elicensing) who offered the courses that i need and they still show available on their website; however, they did not keep up on the credentialing due to the lack of demand. If i would have called them 18 months ago i would have been good.

That is a copy of the e-mail sent to me from the state.

Above is the link that takes you to the AQB standards. I just got off the phone with a very knowledgeable individual. They provided me with the above information and a list of appproved course providers. Unfortunately, no provider offers courses for upgrading your license as it does not appear to be cost effective for them. Its a little frustrating that i will have to take double the amount of hours than what is needed to become a general due to the lack of courses. It now becomes a big decision if i am getting my SRA instead.

The extra class time will not harm you in the least. If you choose good classes, they will be worth your while.

The AQB sets MINIMUMS, states can meet or EXCEED requirements.

Education providers cannot (or won't) create a 15 hour General H&BU when the time needed to TEACH H&BU takes 30 hours (I've taken most of the general classes).

In simple verbiage: a 15 hour general class(s) doesn't exist and never will.

You are going to have to take the 30 hour offerings because that's the ONLY option.

The state requirements DO align with the AQB. Its a shame, as of one year ago there was an approved company that did offer the 15 hour courses, but it been purchased since.
