A.I. Stuff

We have lost ours a couple of times. But it is not the plow itself that takes them out. It is the force of the snow coming off of the plow
I think the same thing here. You can see lots of snow thrown 75 to 100‘ out in the open fields because this guy is driving so fast. After the last snow, nine out of 12 mailboxes on the street were destroyed. I think the county Highway department is going to have a word with this guy since they are the ones paying for all the mailboxes.

eats illegal labor which is who does it now.
I do not know a single poultry farmer who does not pick up their own dead chickens or the Amish family running the farm does that task. In fact, I don't know many farmers who are not either white, Cherokee, or Hmong. I don't know a single Hispanic poultry farmer, nor do I know a farm who isn't run by either a white farmer or they have hired an Amish or Mennonite family to run the farm. There are a few unique farms where Amish own the barns and raise organic birds and eschew the use of automatic feeders, lights, or even fans, relying upon free range to avoid the barns being too hot. They clean the barns by hand and otherwise use little or no electricity. Egg operations they pick up eggs by hand.

And the only farmers who hire are larger family operations with multiple farms. The largest around here is a father & sons' operation. The father is a retired company president, whose 3 boys and one son-in-law operate some 80 poultry barns which they operate with mostly Amish residents on the individual farms which vary from 4 to 12 barns apiece. Grandchildren run a couple of the farms. Some Hispanics work hauling feed or catching chickens and they fill the processing plants. But they are not on the farms. They are not working in the barns, except some work on crews building chicken houses and installing equipment.

There are very few illegals around here compared to the legal ones, but those here generally work under a legal family member who operates a service like chicken catching, janitorial service or lawn services or they work cash as framers, roofers, and other similar jobs.

Illegals from Mexico might speak some English but most south of Mexico do not speak English making it very difficult to communicate. Also, one country with high illegals we don't talk about is India. And I've yet to see one working on a farm although some have farm backgrounds. I was talking to 2 profs from my alma mater and they were talking about the number of letters they get from Indian students wanting to go to grad school or seek a PhD here. But they apply, get the referral from the professor, and then get a student visa but never show up to the school. They go straight to Silicon Valley or other tech center for work. Illegal? You bet it is but once here they avoid ICE while trying to get a work visa. The two professors said they reject them 100% of the time because they got fooled by what they thought were legitimate students.

There is no excuse for same. But I had problems with vandals and placed a small mailbox inside a large one and filled the space with concrete. One night I heard a ker-thunk...a yelp, and a car drove off. Part of a ballbat was laying on the ground by my 100 lb. mailbox. I finally decided it might represent a hazard and the PO allowed me to make a half moon drive into the yard. Safer for them, safer for me. But I used a piece of drill pipe, buried with 600 lb. (10 sacks of quick set concrete) of cement, and bought a dent resistant mailbox made of quarter inch steel. No one comes in the yard so No problem.

PS - I don't believe GPS driven machinery is the kind of energy hog AI envisions. Tractors can be GPS driven using a simple steering device which allows a map to be created then stored, so each time the machine is used in that field. And it can save many fields. Sit back watch YouTube and let the tractor do the work.

Was doing an appraisal and the owner of the house worked the family farm. He showed me his new tractor and was telling me how one of the satelites was down one time and they forgot to notify the farmers so they could adjust their GPS. It started "jumping" rows.

Fun fact, tractors often use the Russian GLONASS system for navigation. What could go wrong?
