I edited the OP. Please read."Window Unit" appears self-explanatory - IMO you would be hard pressed to convince a UW otherwise.
Good Luck
Of course, you can leave a window unit in place as long as you want to. Doubt it would be a safety hazard but, it might not be smart energy wise.Greetings,
Can the window unit be "permanently" installed? What I mean is, can the unit be installed to be left in the window during the winter? Would this be a safety hazard?
Thanks
Yes it can be.Greetings,

Maybe so, but not everyone wants to or can afford a mini split. Good window AC, $300. Mini-split, $3,000 +. Besides you don't need a mini-split if you have an adequate force air furnace or other heat source. Most people are installing mini-splits and moving away from clunky, energy-wasting and noisy window units.
No reason you can't. They even make covers for the outside part of the unit. Helps keep cold air out in the winter and keeps debris from getting into the unitGreetings,

No. But you can permanently install one in a wall. Can the window unit be "permanently" installed?
You must have seen an old unit. New units are very quiet. And they can be very energy efficient. The mini-split is a better option but for retro fit windows, nothing wrong with them. I have a wall mounted unit in my office in the back of my garage. It's 20 plus years old but uses electricity rather frugally.moving away from clunky, energy-wasting and noisy window units.
