Greetings I recently applied to the assessors office at LA county for an “appraiser assistant”,Wanted to know if it’s hard to get accepted? I really want this job any advice or knowledge would help a lot thank you.
My job experience, I work at an animal hospital and I also have my real estate license so I know how to do comps and use the CRM

It would depend on how many other candidates are applying for the job. If you are a registered trainee, that should help as you have experience in appraising Real Estate. I know a former trainee I worked with in the mid-2000s who applied, took a simple test, and was accepted a few weeks later. I was shocked when he got the job because he was the worst appraiser I have ever met. Eventually, he was fired about a year later.

During the COVID refinance boom, many appraisers working for the county quit their job and went back into the field to cash in on the refinance boom. I know many did not even know about the UAD and all the changes in the field when they last left. I would say it would not be that difficult to get this job as long as you don’t have many applicants and you can make a good impression.

Assessor work is a different animal from fee work. Mass appraisal - can be in house or hired out CAMA organizations. If hired take all the classes they will let you.

The California Board of Equalization actually has a lot of their training materials available online for public access.

Thank you mejappz, I’m currently working on getting my trainee license at appraisal institute, apparently you don’t qualify for the position if you don’t get a CPT certificate from Rio hondo college which I have. I’m just nervous because HR send me a message about the job opening and it had an attachment of 400 emails I was shocked.

Get in line with 500 others and see what happens :)

I submitted my application already , next week I’m receiving a date to take my assessment exam.

Go to Quizlet IAAO and do the flash cards and quizzes on the basic 101, 102, and 400 classes. It's free
