RSW, you're correct. I missed the FHA sentence at the bottom of the post.

Wonder if 01/01/2009 will address the fee issue.
 
I do not see any reference to FHA in the OP. FHA appraisal fee issue is addressed by HUD/FHA as follows:


2-13 APPRAISAL AND INSPECTION FEES.
The lender is responsible for collecting fees and promptly paying appraisers and inspectors.
Page 2-9

That does NOT say COD orders are forbidden....only that the the lender is RESPONSIBLE for collecting and paying the appraiser promptly.
 
Given all the problems that you have had with this one I would not accept a credit card under any circumstances. Cash or certified check only.
 
Yes, stop payments can be placed on certified checks.
Credit cards can be disputed and the appraiser would lose 99.9% of the time.

CASH in this circumstance is the ONLY way I would accept payment. Period.
 
I agree, no credit card payments. BTW, 500 beaver pelts for a rush order, complex assignment, holiday weekend inspection......that's a bargain in most parts.
 
I never did get an answer from the OP about the foundation inspection.
 
Geez, don't any of you get the owner to SIGN something when they give you payment? I have them sign an acknowledgement stating they KNOW they cannot get a copy of the appraisal from me (it tells them how to get a copy from the lender), that the fee is not dependent on hitting a certain value, etc. Same for credit cards.
