AI Agents and Appraiser Oversupply

The book I am reading wrt AI predicts that between 40-47% of all existing jobs today will be replaced by AI - how are people going to "adapt" to that?

Efficiency just makes things faster or cheaper for the overlords to produce -with more wealth going to a smaller %- autonomous vehicles will replace many well-aid or at least decently paid jobs that GIF workers and blue-collar workers rely on. Without UBI or other plans to cushion the immense job loss or reduction in pay as humans take a more peripheral role, it is going to be brutal - I probably wont be around if it gets to that point because that level of replacement wrt work will take 20-30 years - if it gets that high.

Even if AI displaces 30% of the workforce, it will be at a scale never experienced before and affect all levels of workers, from low-paid basic to higher-paid professionals.
The overlords and tech titans are worried as well, with some suggesting a form of UBI or other safeguards, because they realize that if the workforce shrinks, their customer base shrinks since a loss of income means a loss of purchasing power.

Thewre are some new jobs and opportinies forecast to arrive as well, however most of them are very high tech and rwure a level of skill and re training that is out of reach for many of the displaced.

Tax the machine's users. They're the ones putting people out of work.

Several of our members are already using AI. Someday they might get taxed for it.

I wish we could. Tax them and create the UBI from the tax. This admin, at least, is going the opposite direction, giving them massive tax breaks and deregulating so they can hide profits in crypto.

Can future administrations tax them? Idk. Or people can choose not to participate - which is a lifestyle choice and means going back to a barter economy and homesteading or living very simply but maybe it is better than the alternative -

If the tech titans and corporate owners see their customer base shrink and profits shrink despite all the efficiencies, that might get their attention.

The past 200 years have been an example of what happens when technology makes certain jobs obsolete. Overall, it's been good for society, and when one job is eliminated, eventually 2 more are created. Electrifying homes created the job of lineman and electrician, lightbulb manufacturer, home appliance technician, etc. But first, it probably put quite a few kerosene lamp makers out of business. The problem with AI is that it will probably transform things very quickly and broadly across a bunch of sectors of the economy, so society won't have a chance to adapt immediately. We might see a big spike in unemployment as companies reduce their workforce, followed by a more gradual decrease in unemployment rates as new jobs are created and people are retained or move to other sectors.
