AI is not your buddy, watch out.

At the rate everybody seems to be using and anticipating the massive increase in the use of AI. We will run out of power long before we run out of jobs.
All AI needs is a lot (soon all of it) of power and water. We'll be living in the stone age when AI cuts off our power so it can survive.

According to a golf buddy that's a national manager for a large power products company, a large data center in process is going to power itself with a bank of LARGE auxiliary power units until the local utility can complete the infrastructure to get them connected to the grid, in 3 years. These power units cost many multiple millions of $$ each and there are 20 of them with 20 reserve backup units. Huge CAT diesel engines, each is about the size of a semi-trailer burning approx. 25 gallons of diesel/hour each or 12,000 gal/day for all 20. Money is no object compared to being up and running (the world) sooner than later.

They are "mining" the cheap power sources, there is no doubt. The issue has flared up here recently, and grassroots forces are mounting a vocal defense. Electricity here is about 12 cents per kwh, compared to an average of over 17 cents in the US. I am only aware of one existing installation, and they purchased a little coal-powered generation facility and added their data center. I don't care if they locate here, but they should pay a rate that leaves everyone else's rates unchanged. I don't believe that is not their goal. If they succeed in getting subsidized, I hope we have a lynching party to remove the members of the Public Service Commission.
