When Independence turned into Isolation that's what destroyed appraisers representation because the we versus them mentality developed and isolated us.

First when the Institute left NAR
the rally cry was it's better to die independently then sleeping with
flea infested dogs-AKA Realtors.

Unfortunately that mindset was passed on by old mentors to non members and by licensing the new trainees believed that lenders and Realtors were their enemy.

Today the licensed appraisers have isolated themselves so much that nobody represents their interests.

The lesson here is Independence doesn't mean Isolation from the folk's that provide your incomes.

Glenn, I have always steered away from cozy relationships with Realtors (brokers selling real estate). I will not be a ***** lying in bed with the people that provide my income and doing whatever their money will buy.

Bob you haven't learned anything but the old SREA and AI members would have embraced you and taken your vote.

They promised they didn't need to bow to anyone or anything and they'd represent you.

Dear colleagues,

Look. Technology and AI is reducing all jobs that sit in front of a computer and manipulate data and NAR is powerless to stop it. I've been in the business since 1985 and always felt it was a fragile trade. Additionally when emailing , the Internet and online real estate data became available and integrated into appraisal reports ...I inherently knew where it was headed. 2008 mortgage collapse extended our jobs 18 years. They were just starting to get their beer muscles and move us out but got blown into the stone age and the optics of giving us the cow catcher treatment were bad. They really don't need our appraisal acumen anymore .they just need targeted data to feed AI and the macro lending ecosystem will be just as or more secure as it is with a gaggle of introverted, cranky, delusional regarding importance and frankly weird people filling out forms.

That is fine with me. Every man for himself. As for me, I am not selling my soul in order to get appraisal orders. Just not going to do. I have been appraising before 1991 when licensing came into being. From the get-go, brokers and lenders chose the appraisers who would do their bidding. NAR, AI NCPAC have never done anything to protect the appraiser or the public. Several posters on here have gone to work for some of the agencies that are killing us. They are camera chasers who love the limelight and enjoy the regulator life. I have made a decent living since 1991. I have never wavered from doing ethical work and refusing to bow down to anyone. Since 1991 I have had six board complaints because I would not do unethical appraisals. ALL SIX were dismissed for no cause. I did not have to take a class, I did not get a warning...I was exonerated based on my work file and the facts. I can'r compete with appraisers with saleable ethic. Can't and won't. Every man (or woman) is on their own.

The Appraisal Institute’s move away from NAR wasn’t about independence or isolation, it was about money. Chicago wants to control who develops courses and who gets to teach those courses. Their move away from NAR and when they had the dust up with TAF were about money and control of courses.
