Doing a FHA streamline refi on a property where a small but active airport is across the street. end of a runway is approximately 1/4 mile from the property.

FHA guidelines say that the appraiser is to determine whether the property is within the airport clear zone and report it.

Anyone know where I can find this information?

VC 1 g: "New/proposed construction in airport clear zone."

This doesn't cover existing dwellings.

What now???

Pamela:

The airport authority should have the info.

Is this a municipal or private airport? Our city has an airport authority that provides all the data for us. I have several sets of maps showing the approach corridors to the airport. Small airfields are another story.

I live in the avigation easement to our municipal and military airport. FHA loans are done on these properties. Most clear zones extend out from the center line of the runway for a distance of one mile. I just make a comment in the addendum that the property is in the approach path to the airport.

Have you ever been to Midway Airport in Chicago. There is a house right across the street from the end of the main runway. Those airplanes pass over the house at 50'. Wouldn't want to live there! Did I also mention I am a pilot?

Thanks Mike! Good information that I really didn't know anything about.

This was a Streamline Refi so I explained where it was in reference to the airport and runway and that it may or may not be within the airport clear zone. Now it's up to the DEU.
