Alamode server license for two people or two standalone licenses?

I'm adding a second user to do data entry on my appraisals. So two people will need to be working in Total at the same time but on different reports, using Windows 10 Pro. I'm aware there will be an additional alamode license expense.

To my knowledge there are two ways to go; 1) buying a server license or, 2) buying an additional standalone license. I'm hoping to get feedback from those who have two-person offices and are using either method. Why do you prefer the server license, or why do you prefer the standalone licenses?

Thanks for your advice!

I'm sorry I don't have any experience with the "server version" to relate however two standalone licenses with both installations synchronized using this program https://www.goodsync.com/download has been working well for us for many years now.

Used to be able to run on different PCs, but apparently they did away with it. Shame on core-lamode.

Yes, back in the day (15 years or so ago) that's how we did it. The times they are a-changin'.

Yeah that doesn't excuse it tho. Be sure to let them know the second person is not an appraiser and a clerical assistant shouldn't require a separate license...as this was a previously included feature. Might even get you a discount.

I have one software license installed on 2 different PCs, with one serving as a 'hot' backup in case of a catastrophic crash, so I wouldn't lose any time getting a new PC up and running. ALM is OK with this. The caveat is only ONE version of the software can be running at once. If you are only on one PC at once, and your database is on a network location (so both computers are saving to the same place) this will be fine. The license is a user license, not a location license.

This doesn't directly answer your question, but I do know the server license is quite expensive. ALM could answer your specifics about sharing files in a 2 user environment, (ie one database only, on a network), but I also know they have a strong preference toward pushing you to a server environment in that instance, which is not cost effective for 2 people.

As I recall I did use a network version in the late '90s while running Windows NT. It's a complexity that I would prefer to avoid, especially if others are successfully using two standalones, such as you and Mike. I'll be needing simultaneous usage so will be getting the additional user license.

If anyone else can share their experiences, it will be appreciated!

My firm uses a server license. Used to be included in the "Elite" package, but now it is a standalone product.

Individual licenses would be too expensive for us. The server license is the perfect fit for our office.

How much do they charge for the server license and does each user still incur a fee as if a one-person appraisal shop?
