I just received a call from Bill Darden, owner of Appraisers.com, a national appraiser referral service. Someone (a woman) has been calling their membership and asking for credit card information. The person knows a lot about both the Appraisers.com operation and the appraiser members who are listed. Please DO NOT give out your credit card information on the phone to anyone who may call representing themselves as being from Appraisers.com! If someone from Appraisers.com calls you ask them for your account number. If they can not give you your account number at Appraisers.com then they ARE NOT from Appraisers.com!

Since these people are calling the membership of Appraisers.com it is possible that they might call other appraiser directory services also, such as my AppraiserUSA.com. I can tell you right now that I will never call you asking for credit card information as the only credit card method available is the PayPal service which is 100% online and at a very secure site. So if someone calls you representing themselves as being from AppraiserUSA.com and wanting credit card information, it is a scam and DO NOT give it to them.

I thank Bill Daren for phoning and alerting me about this! Appraisers.com is the oldest Appraiser Directory on the internet and has a good reputation for getting business for appraisers.

Thanks, Wayne for warning us. That shows what a great guy you are to network and have a good relationship with other directories. I always said - I get most of my referrals from other appraisers!

Wouldn't it be great to have a dummy credit card # to give to scammers like this.

Something that would set off bells and whistles when used, and track the stolden # back to those trying to use it fraudulently.
