Not to degenerate into the political argument. It is the silly season, of course. But Ms. Hillary proposes that by 2027, we would be free of fossil fuels for generating all electricity by non-fossil fuels.

That means ramping up solar construction not by 700% as some sources state. Rather to ramp up solar panel installation by 7 times the current rate of change...and with no clear indication how you provide that power after dark. It would be one thing to generate enough power to run everything during the day, but you still have the issue of running the world after 5 pm and peak electric usage often comes about 4 pm to 8 pm. Until some sort of storage is available, then solar power isn't the way to do it...never mind the huge electric "farms" that will cover tens if not hundreds of thousands of acres of land in the process. You cannot grow crops under those like you can a wind generator.

It would be an admirable goal to say 30% of the energy in America would be "renewable" by 2027. I doubt that some very reliable and doable technologies such as tidal power could even be approved by our government before 2027. And certainly no one expects nuclear energy to see any big revival. And how do these technologies exist without the tax payer? Either pay a much higher energy rate, a tax, or subsidize the L out of those in the business. In other words, pick and choose winners in the energy business. And tidal isn't sexy, only wind and solar are? Why?

The fact is the ethanol buzz has died because it cannot compete with fossil energy. And wind and solar are getting cheaper...but not as cheap as natural gas. So go figure. We want to fuel our economy of "feel good" items and wonder why we stagger along....

All things green at the expense of taxpayers to favor and shower cronies with free money in the name of saving the planet. We have had almost 7 years of that now. Another 8 years should do the job of saving the planet. :)

And when it snows,
and when it rains,
and when it's cloudy.

Because the whole country is just like Southern California, and all we have to do is watch out for fires and mudslides.

Let them eat cake.

Nuclear...Nuclear....Nuclear....just gotta be careful with it.....maybe require a bachelor's degree for all nuclear employees.....

At least you aren't carrying on with your silliness ... like asking if we were going to have to drive around with windmills on our vehicles

and I do realize you want an immediate replacement, but stuff takes time, especially when the gov't isn't subsidizing the R&D

batteries, again I mention batteries ... it's happening and you can read about it if you choose

tidal power is being explored ... you and I both know that, but here in Pittsburgh it's kind of a moot point ... well, maybe not for long (and I'm not talking tomorrow)

Come to California and live the life that you dream of. We have it all, now. :)

Perhaps I should. I wonder how many of the protesters trying to keep an oil ship in port (and they did) drove to the site in a car or some other means of vehicular transportation requiring oil or gas? The hypocrisy is laughable. The idea we simply can stop using fossil fuels is nuts. Interesting program running on PBS about nuclear energy. A company proposes to use the spent fuel rods to fuel a newer better generation of atomic power plants. It would solve the problem of disposing these rods, and it does not pollute...except that Fukushima "problem"...a breach in the plant. So it is a choice. Small, deliberate, manageable pollution, or the once in 10,000 huge disaster.

In any case, the government should not create some policy to deliberately kill existing technology and impose a new improved (or not) system. Let the market do it. The conversion to other forms of energy will come and the slower the transition the less shock to the economy. Storage is the main issue for solar and wind to overcome. During the droughty hot years, the winds are light. During night, the solar panel does not work. And lithium batteries in mega storage may well be a fire hazard extraordinaire. A shipment of same brought down a UPS plane and numerous incidents of over-heating and exploding batteries are known. I certainly know it personally. I had a package of small batteries like those in the HP 12C sitting on a table. One night I heard a loud crack, like that a .22 would make if shot inside the house. I went to check and found the packaging in tatters with pieces of the small battery strewn all over the dining room. No fire but if it has been sitting on a piece of paper? Who knows?

Wind Tower & communication towers in E ILL & W IN S of US24. White Co on right zoned them for less interference.

SB 350 — battle rages over proposed 50-percent fuel cuts in California

Take notice if you drive to and from work each day in California. SB 350, known as the California Gas Restriction Act of 2015, (de León) requires a 50% reduction in petroleum, 50% increase in renewables for electricity generation, and a 50% increase in the energy efficiency of buildings by 2030. SB 350 will also grant the Air Resources Board significant authority to adopt regulations that will result in a 50% reduction in petroleum use in cars and trucks by 2030.

In short, unelected regulators will be able to limit how far you can drive, ration gas, increase costs, and penalize drivers for using too much gas.

Come to California so you can experience true green technology and clean air

As Gov. Jerry Brown prepares to travel to Rome next week for an international climate conference, the debate over a bill aimed at reducing gas usage in California is heating up.

Brown fully supports SB-350, which would mandate a 50-percent cutback in California’s gas usage in the next 15 years, arguing that it’s a prime factor in global warming.
