Not to degenerate into the political argument. It is the silly season, of course. But Ms. Hillary proposes that by 2027, we would be free of fossil fuels for generating all electricity by non-fossil fuels.
That means ramping up solar construction not by 700% as some sources state. Rather to ramp up solar panel installation by 7 times the current rate of change...and with no clear indication how you provide that power after dark. It would be one thing to generate enough power to run everything during the day, but you still have the issue of running the world after 5 pm and peak electric usage often comes about 4 pm to 8 pm. Until some sort of storage is available, then solar power isn't the way to do it...never mind the huge electric "farms" that will cover tens if not hundreds of thousands of acres of land in the process. You cannot grow crops under those like you can a wind generator.
It would be an admirable goal to say 30% of the energy in America would be "renewable" by 2027. I doubt that some very reliable and doable technologies such as tidal power could even be approved by our government before 2027. And certainly no one expects nuclear energy to see any big revival. And how do these technologies exist without the tax payer? Either pay a much higher energy rate, a tax, or subsidize the L out of those in the business. In other words, pick and choose winners in the energy business. And tidal isn't sexy, only wind and solar are? Why?
The fact is the ethanol buzz has died because it cannot compete with fossil energy. And wind and solar are getting cheaper...but not as cheap as natural gas. So go figure. We want to fuel our economy of "feel good" items and wonder why we stagger along....
