Alternative To Marshall & Swift Res. Cost Handbook

See the link below for a cost estimator utility example. I had to use a link, excel files cannot be included as an attachment to forum posts.

In summary, the excel file contains:

- user input worksheet, utilizes drop down menus and type in fields.

- updated Form 1007 cost report with the fluff removed, the report can be customized as you like. The cost values are obtained from the user input and cost data.

- cost data, can be obtained from whatever source you like. In this example, primarily NBC data.

I'm still refining the tool, but it illustrates how easy it is to create a cost tool using national cost data and excel. If you are running locally, you can split the excel display into two windows, one for the user input and one for the 1007 report, to see how user selections change the cost estimate. I assume the window split is possible in IE, but I haven't had a need for this yet.

This is another nice addition to zzz. I'm tightly integrating this with the rest of zzz, but I think I'll also keep it available as a standalone utility.

bueno suerto.

Nicely done, I can appreciate how much trouble it is to create those kinds of things.

Ben
Thanks Ben - I don't do enough new homes or plans and specs to worry about it too much (builders don't like me that much   because I don't play their games of inflating prices that can't be justified). That goods like a good link to have for that once a year job. Most of mine are in excess of 20 years and have various different ages of repairs, updates, additions, etc.
