ANSI and Free Sex?

I have mixed feelings, on one hand I think anyone who didn’t purchase the standards, yet uses ANSI comments in their reports should be tried, drawn and quartered…… but not hanged. On the other hand, I’m tempted to post it here for anyone who didn’t buy it to download for free at their leisure.

Any Citizen can download or access for free; HUD Documents; 4000.1, FMHA/USDA 4150. FNMA Selling Guide is offered free on-Line.

city/County etc Laws and regulations are free to access by the Public.

Muni-Codes are free access to the Public

USPAP is not free for many. My State, the NCAB provides USPAP for free to ALL licensed Appraisers.

The list goes on. It is what it is. If you buy ANSI then you can deduct the cost from your Gross Income.

"One wonders - If a client demands a certain standard to be used, should the client be compelled to supply the guidelines of that standard?"

This is why I consider appraisal an industry and not a profession....
Professionals would just pay the $25.00 (we're talking $25.00) and move on....

You have that backwards. The professional WOULD question the requirement, the source and it's impact on the quality of the end product.

The fact that we all rolled over and accepted it is what paints us as industry NPCs

Dan Bart is mocking the appraisers because we are forced to pay $25 to download one copy of ANSI's copyrighted standards which should be free.
I refuse to give in.
Take the class as part of your CE and the booklet is free, or is was for me last time.

"But the problem with charging people money to obtain the standard required of appraisers is that, other people who receive copies of the appraisal, such as buyers and sellers, have no way to know if their property has been correctly reported without also buying a copy of the required standard, so they can check for themselves and be assured that all of those entities making money off of their transaction, are not screwing them over."

It's not a problem....
I've got to believe that ANSI would love to sell a copy of the guidelines to anyone, including borrowers....
This is America, this is the way business is conducted....
Make hay while the sun shines....

Thanks for pointing out that there are several reasons that appraising is an industry and not a profession....

At 1st I thought this was an ANSI marketing gimmick to increase sales....

BTW....
I, too, dislike the idea of having to pay $25.00 for the guidelines....
Yes it's a scam to get money from appraisers. Someone is making money off our backs.
By paying $25, it's a one time download. Should be $5 for 16 page guideline.

It's copyrighted. Your class gave you a free copy? How nice.

It's the cost of doing business when its applied to another industry....
But a SCAM when it applied to the appraisal industry.... :nono:

It's our system....

lets be clear, it legally seems like a contractual agreement like due dates, but if it is an assignment condition then it is law since your State said so:rof: :rof: :rof:
