Sorry, I forget to finish the post...yes, everything you spend on business is deductable. Spend a few hundred dollars consulting with an accountant to set up your business. I highly recommend Quick Books Pro which will interface with Alamode's appraisal programs. Also have an attorney set up your corporation especially if you have a partner. There are several ways you can go...we chose sub S corp.

So when can relocate to Michigan? LOL!

We were actually thinking of placing an ad in the paper for an exp. retired appraiser. Someone who could use a little money and is willing to give us the training and guidance we need. Or like you said, the burnout who is looking for something a little less demanding.

Are the taxes higher with the Sub S Corp. than with lets say an LLC? Or does the S Corp. offer you less personal liablity?

Major diff is that income passes through to the shareholders...no corporate tax. I think liability is liability regardless.
Unfortunately not licensed in your state....but your add just might work. You could get all kinds of takers here. I still have another 5 years before I think about quiting.

Mike, thank you for the help. I will take your advice and post the ad on here.

Good luck and I am sure I will be back for more advice.
