Anyone had a torn rotator cuff?

Doug.....If the pain radiates from the underarm area and extends to the back and chest, you may have an inflamed rotator cuff...I had it for several weeks....was in major pain...couldn't even sleep....including sitting up (recliner) ...at one point thought I was having a Heart Attack due to the tightness across chest and back.....finally saw the Doc...got some pills..and had to do some rehab.....

I just had an MRI to evaluate my right shoulder; the Doc suspects a rotator cuff tear (I know, I'm just falling apart out here). I was pushing myself up off the floor after playing with my puppies; heard and felt a "pop" in my shoulder along with horrific pain. I had almost all of my weight on this arm as this was when my hip was really bad. Anyway, the pain went away in about a week, but I was left with reduced range of motion. I can not reach behind myself with that arm...it crunches, and I also can not push on anything without pain. I won't know the results until the 22nd. Good luck, Doug!

ifting a gas pressure washer into my truck and now it is killing me... particularly if I try to raise it over my head.
One should not lift gas pressure washers over one's head (why would you need to). Pressure washers should only be operated while they are stationary on the ground.:rof:

Seriously, file your claim with our AppraisersForum.com health insurance and we'll take care of you.
And NO, you can't have tomorrow off!:fiddle:

Good point, Wayne. That AppraisersForum.com health insurance plan is awesome! It paid for my tooth cleaning plus I only had a small co-pay for when my sister's ex husband's mother's cousin's daughter-in-law tried to cut me with a tobacco knife.

May be an age thing

Have the same problems as described by the others. MRI showed a small tear, Doc said to live with it. Do light weights with many repetitions rather than the opposite. Pain often radiates down my arm to my fingers, particularly at night. Doc said take Alieve for the pain when necessary.

That's just it ... the left hand had the motor end and the right was just listing from the carriage ... but the right was in an oddball position and trying to counterbalance the left, and lifting at the same time ....

Thanks George .. I have read quite a bit and am fairly convinced that it isn't torn ... more like a bursititis and the excercises should help according to WebMD anyway ... if it isn't better in a couple of weeks, I may get it looked at ...

Thanks to all for the replies ... :)

If it's bursitis you or an assistant should be able to pinpoint the exact spot of most intense pain. See if that relates to a bursa sac.(My doctor and hockey linemate was poised with his cortisone needle). I had a horrible bout 2 years ago.

30 minutes a day rowing the 14' fishing boat loosened it up in about 3 days. Followed up with long super hot showers. I continued doing light dumbell work for about a month, all gone.

Good luck.

Yep ... I am getting old ... and yes ... I can lift a 2600lbs Divilbiss pressure washer, over my head, and have had to do so only once, because the tailgate was over my head ... (damn 4x4's) ... this time though I was only putting in my little Dakota ....

Anyway, I read a bunch on the net and called my brother (the doctor) and he said he thought it was probably arthritis and a little bursitis... (My right was my "inside" hand when I rode bulls) and so it was likely that I was just feeling my age and needed to take that into consideration in the future.

The pain was in the joint and radiating to the outside of my shoulder and down the tricep area. The exercises are helping and pain is lessened ... My brother said not to worry ... if there was very much wrong, it would probably fall off ... :rof: :rof:

A few years ago I had an MRI for shoulder pain that I had for over a year. The MRI did not show anything but since PT did not help, the doctor decided to go in and check it out. As it turns out I had a torn Rotator Cuff and torn Labrum. So unfortunatly MRI's dont always tell all. The real kicker is that after I had the surgery I developed "Frozen Shoulder" which is otherwisw Known as Adhesive Capsulitis.

Stage one: In the "freezing" stage, which may last from six weeks to nine months, the patient develops a slow onset of pain. As the pain worsens, the shoulder loses motion.

Stage two: The "frozen" stage is marked by a slow improvement in pain, but the stiffness remains. This stage generally lasts four months to twelve months.

Stage three: The final stage is the "thawing", during which shoulder motion slowly returns toward normal. This generally lasts five months to 32 months.

In other words, Frozen Shoulder is fun.
