Finally got a few orders and when I tried to the sketch the sketch page doesn't open. I am using WinTotal Atena andthe Apex that comes with it. When I select sketch it goes to the Power Sketch page. I select "New" and the small dialog box (New Sketch) pops up. I select "Building Sketch" and "OK" but the page to enter the sketch never comes up.

Can anyone help? Should I reinstall from my WinTotal CD?

DJBanas,

I believe that is what a la mode suggests in their tech docs. Here is a link to their site which should provide more information/help: http://help.alamode.com/docs/4821.htm

Hope this helps!

Next Step?

Tried the steps in the help file. When I click on "Register Apex" I get a message saying that it is already registered and no further configuration is required. Should I unregister and then register?

Thanks,
Don

Still trying

Started fresh this morning...

Did a download from a la mode per doc 5116....No Help!!

Did find Doc 4050 which explains how to manually import a sketch. Worked OK until I brought the sketch in to the report and it has big red "For Evaluation Purposes Only" across the sketch.

Any thoughts? It's almost 9am on the East Coast, too early to start drinking?

Apex & WTAPI.EXE

Still trying to get Apex working....New question: Does Apex use WTAPI.EXE?

Spybot came up the other day and flagged this as a file that is used by malicious software. I clicked "remove" . The next time I went to use Wintotal/Apex is when I above problem started.

Anyone know anything about this?

Off to church to pray. Be back later.

DJBanas:

Yes, I believe you need that exe, and no - Spybot™ has misidentified that program... :-( I believe the "WT" stands for "WinTOTAL"... ? "API" generally stands for "Application Programing Interface" or synonymous variations. I am surprised that ALM tech support didn't mention that - did you tell them you had deleted a file like that?

Anyway, it sounds like you may have disabled your registration. I believe they have a tech doc on that - how to restore your license they issued, but I don't know exactly which one it is, myself.

If you are in a bind, you can try e-mailing me your sketch file. I can load it up and save it as either an image or a PDF and you can insert it as a work-around until you get your license restored. If you want to do this from within Apex while you are integrated, you'll need to do an "Export" (File|Export > File...) since WT disables the "Save as..." menu item in Apex. Otherwise, you can run Apex in Stand-alone mode and do a regular "Save as..." and attach the AX3 file to an email. The "quick key" for Export is [Ctrl] [F12] - be sure to save the file as something unique rather than the silly "Sketch" name... something like the address or similar will help you identify the file if you need to send me more than one.

In case you are unfamiliar with this, here is a link to an Apex support document on how to insert a PDF into WT:

http://www.apexwin.com/v5/kb/?View=entry&EntryID=18

I may be away from my computer later today, but I'll check in before the end of the day to see if you have sent me anything. If you have, I'll load up the file(s) and prepare PDF(s) as needed and send them back by return e-mail. My e-mail address is spelled out below.

Hope this helps!

WTAPI.exe

Randall:

I had not contacted al a mode as I was under the impression that Apex now supported the sketch program and not alm. I will contact them on Monday and see what they have to say.

Thanks for the offer to convert the sketch but I have a few days to get the reports in so it's not critical. Still have to contact zoning and tax assessor offices.

Appreciate your asistance with this problem.

Have a great Sunday!

WTAPI.exe Restored - Case Closed

After some quick and extremely competent support from Jed on the ALM helpdesk my sketch program is working. Never expected a Sunday callback, but he called about an hoiur after I placed my call through the WT assistant. Turns out that the WTAPI.exe is very important!!!!

Thanks to Randall for his assistance and to Jed @ ALM for the great service!

Omg This Just Happened To Me Too!

SpyBot just deleted the WTAPI.exe file and now my APEX doesn't work.

What the fix Don?

Thanks,

Henry

Henry,

I'd love to help, but I understand that WTAPI.EXE is an a la mode file so if Don doesn't post something soon, you'll need to call their tech support. In the interim, Apex should still run in stand-alone mode as I believe the WTAPI.EXE program is for integration, not the actually functioning of Apex per se. Like with Don's situation, if it'll help, send me a file and I'll see if I can make you a PDF or something to insert manually.
