APEX sketch integration

What the heck is an integration license, and who charges it?

OSUB,

Generally speaking, it is a licence which allows you to be able to integrate with third party (non-ALM) products - in this case, sketch programs. The fee is charged by ALM, not by the third party software company.

Hope this helps!

Randall, since you are from Apex software I have a question. When I run the IPAD app and want to label an area the slots where I am to type it are black instead of white. I can't see what I am typing. This obviously must be a flaw. What's the problem? Is there something I can do on my end? I have already tried reinstalling the app.

HSH,

Sorry you're having a problem. Unfortunately, I left my iPad at the office on Friday, but I'll take a look at that on Monday when I drive into town. Unlike the Android version, I was only involved with that app from the general oversight and approval perspectives, not the design, feature set nor coding aspects, so if I can't figure out what you mean right away, I'll get with Robert, Iain and Jonathan for help. If necessary, I may need to PM you and get some contact info so we can give you a call, or something.

Regards,

The reason I changed to APEX is for mobile sketching. I was constantly having problems sketching decks and porches and adding them to the house. For some reason Total would try to make them part of the first floor from time to time. I would have to draw the deck away from the house. I had been using it for about 2 years and found this to be a constant problem. With APEX mobile you don't have to label what you are doing right away. I can draw part of a wall of the first floor, draw the deck, and then go back to doing the first floor. This makes it much easier in the field for larger houses. I don't have to draw the whole house and then go back around the house to draw the decks and porches. I can draw them as I go around the house. Total sketch is good to use for simple houses, so I still plan on using it.

What the heck is an integration license, and who charges it?

I found out about the license fee Alamode charges when I installed Total 2013 (which I cannot use). They insisted that I had been paying the license fee all along since I have been using Apex 5. They have now separated the license fee from the software expense, I suppose.

I suspect it may be just a way to raise the price of the software without actually raising the price. License fee used to be included. Now, it's not. That means the overall cost goes up $50 if you want to use a superior sketching program.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, please.

One feature of Apex V I like is the ability to transfer in a floor plan or Google Earth shot and just trace the footprint. I run into the occasional challenging sketch and have found this feature to be a huge time saver. I do not know if Total sketch has that option, but I do know that I would not go without this feature. It works here because we have a lot of flat roof houses. Of course overhangs and such are problematic.
