I decided to try out Apex v6. Mr. Colon with the sales staff kindly offered a free trial that he extended until Monday 04/06/2015 to allow for an evaluation of the software. He also said that there is a promo price. If one buys a license at full price then the second license is free (I believe he extended this to Monday also; I don't know if it is still available in general). I was hoping for a little better pricing for current Apex v5 users, but it is not unreasonable.

No sooner than I installed the software I sadly started experiencing a problem. When I close the program its process continues to run and prevents the program from opening back up again. I have to kill the process in order to get it to open back up. I have requested support from Apex concerning this issue. I guess I will miss the purchase deal. I don't feel comfortable buying yet.
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I have tried a few things with my antivirus program (Avast) but I am unsure what is causing this.

Are there folks out there that are running Apex v6 on a Windows 7 Pro 64bit without any issues?

Hey bud,

Sorry you're having a problem. My first thought is that it is simply a bug in our stuff vs. a rampant Avast process. I'll have Jonathan get with you first thing on Monday. He is actually not a salesperson - he is head of our Support Department, so I'm guess you sorta lucked into things since he was helping out on phones last week ;-) We certainly would not let an issue on our side cause you to miss out on a promotion - if we did and I found out about it, there'd be trouble, LOL. We'd not expect you to purchase anything when you're uncomfortable with it. Do you need me to get someone to look you up and give you a call over the weekend, or do you know how to stop the program and get going again? Feel free to PM me with your info and I can get someone to get back with you if necessary.

[Edit] Just heard from Jonathan (@7:55 CST.) He said if you PM me your contact info, he'll give you a call. If you can't PM here and are uncomfortable giving out some info here, just give me your zip code and a partial phone number and I'll see if Jonathan can search in the database to find you. If you can give me just a few clues, I'm betting he can narrow things down and find you.

Hey Mr. Garrett. Thank you very much for the response and the offer for assistance. I have sent a pm with my contact info.

I won't be able to work on it until Monday in the am. I hold you guys in high regard and really appreciate your activity on this forum.

This certainly could be pc specific. I will be waiting to hear from you guys. I was just wondering if others have experienced this.

Glad to try and help, and thanks for the kind words!

I received your PM and have just now passed it along to Jonathan. I've asked him to keep me in the loop as I really want to know what is causing the issue. It certainly could be PC-specific, but I lean more to the notion that it is in our code, not your PC. We've not seen this issue ourselves and the core code is quite mature, but there has been a lot of work on new stuff very recently having to do with some specific things for other user types, so my guess is that something was very recently added which we haven't managed to trigger ourselves. So basically it is something YOU are doing, but something WE should handle properly.

With your help we'll find it and get you up and going again ASAP. Between now and Monday, if you can give me any clues/pointers about your system or environment (what OS, RAM, integrated with a particular forms program, activity you suspect is leading to the malfunction, whatever) which you think might help, please PM that info to me. I can't necessarily duplicate your conditions at my location ATM, but I'd like to at least try to get working on things sooner than later so we can try to get you going again!

"Back in the day", I was a fee appraiser myself and I know what it is like to feel stranded when something isn't working. I want to do everything I can to help my software not be something that is causing you slowdowns, etc. It should be the opposite, right? ;-) I know that my core team feels the same and we'll work over the holidays if necessary to try and right this.

Regards,

I'm running Apex 6 on a Windows 7 desktop and also on a Windows 8 tablet. I like it for the most part (just a small learning curve) and most of the stumbling blocks have been on my side. Apex techs have been great at getting me set straight and working with it. For now i'm doing simple sketches but plan on doing the more complicated sketches as time permits. The only part I really do not like is that ACI hasn't picked integration yet. I'm hoping for ACI integration pretty soon and hopefully will get field data collection figured out soon too.

Hey Randall. Jonathan called me but I missed the call. I called him back and left a voice. I will be unable to work on it with him until Monday.

My OS is noted in the first post. I believe I put 16 gig of ram in that pc. It is sad that I built it and I am not sure what it is. It could 8. I will check Monday. I am running a pcie based ssd (Revodrive 3 x2) boot drive. I am running Apex v5 on the same pc and it is integrated with Total. The open and close issue with Apex v6 is happening while using it as a stand alone. I have not tried to open Apex v6 from within Total.

Thanks for the additional facts, bud! I imagine that Jonathan will or has seen your post, but I'll pass it along anyway.

Hey Randall. I just got off a support call with Jonathan. He found the problem. It was my computer. I have multiple monitors. I use a multiple monitor program called Actual Multiple Monitors (http://www.actualtools.com/multiplemonitors/).
An exclusion had to be included for Apex v6. Now that it is excluded it works perfectly. You have a great support staff. Buy them a pizza, hamburger, or something. :clapping:

Thanks for the heads up! We're still going to do more research because IF we can, we'd rather "intercept" the interrupts/calls and handle these exceptions ourselves so the end user doesn't have to...
Thanks for letting us all know, though - MOST folks just move on and that can leave folks with the opinion that things are broken, we don't care, or worse. Thanks again!
