Appraisal Institute Controversy Part 2

My bet is that she is a Trojan horse. She is "ETHICS." What appraisal doesn't need is more fake ETHICS. We need superior protocols, that takes a different kind of leader.

She is a Trojan Horse for lenders.
This is the first time I heard that point of view. I'm not a member of the Appraisal Institute however, from what I've read, she was making inroads to the residential side as opposed to just solely focusing on commercial.

She had residential appraisers excited and engaged with the direction she was taking. Obviously, so much so that a petition was put together for her to come back.

Which led to my question, would she even want to? Once you've been jilted, it's hard to step back into that role and make it the way it was.

Once again, from what I've read, there appears to be a dysfunctional atmosphere over there at AI. Which makes total sense. Appraising in itself is kind of floating out there like a rudderless ship at sea. No direction.

Lenders can see what is happening at the AI, which has been ongoing for years. They are aware of what has been done with appraisers for decades. They know changes are coming. They are trying to control things.

IMO, and I have stated this before on this forum more than once, she is a Trojan Horse for TAF and lenders. All she has to do is wave the flag that the appraisers are a poor lot, being discriminated against and treated poorly, which is the case, - and they will blindly flock to her, - which also is the case. Dumb, dumb and dumber.

So, understand that the problem is she is not the person to fix appraiser problems. We don't know how much she actually knows about appraisal, but I would guess she has at best a superficial understanding.. I would have thought that the past CEO, who holds an engineering degree in mining, would have been a possibility. But, no, he is old and worn and torn and spoiled to a pulp. Having a degree is not good enough.

Nowadays, you need to know non-parametric statistics, AI (including some understanding of the underlying math and basic algorithms), construction, technical photography, regulations and so on and so on. Quite a bit, along with practical experience.

Honestly, I don't think they can find an outstanding CEO, no matter how hard they try. All possible candidates are somewhat unimpressive and set in their ways. However, many would be better than Cindy, who offers nothing but a degree in

She has taken a few undergraduate economics courses, but that is not necessarily a useful for managing the delivery of new protocols that ensure higher accuracy and objectivity.

More secrets. A secret firing now a secret settlement.

"We are pleased to report that we have reached a resolution of the litigation brought against the Appraisal Institute by our former Chief Executive Officer, Cynthia Chance.

Dr. Chance claimed in her complaint that the termination of her employment was retaliatory. We unequivocally disagree with Dr. Chance. However, we believe it is in the organization's best interest that we focus on moving forward.

This has been a learning experience, and much of that learning has come from member feedback identifying opportunities for improvement. We have heard from you - our members, chapters and stakeholders - and we are working diligently to address your concerns.

We appreciate your patience and your support. We are moving forward together—with purpose, focus, and a shared commitment to advancing the appraisal profession."

How much did "moving forward" cost members?

Thank god, now that that’s over with, let’s get back to the good ol boy club. Business as usual I suspect.

I have no doubt she did. And I also don’t blame her for settling. The legal system is country is a disaster and does nothing but cost money. That’s why I prefer street justice.

settling is ok...now i get to speculate on the situation and never be wrong :rof:

The train keeps on rolling. As reported on LinkedIn:

APPRAISAL INSTITUTE LAST-MINUTE SHAKEUP

In a decision that has drawn both attention and reflection, the Appraisal Institute’s Board of Directors voted to reject the nomination of Byron Miller, SRA, AI-RRS, as the organization’s 2026 Vice President—a role that would have placed him in-line to serve as President in 2028.

Mr. Miller, a highly respected leader in the valuation profession, was nominated by the Appraisal Institute’s National Nominating Committee and faced no challenge during the petition process.

His nomination was widely seen as a significant and unifying step forward for the organization.

Had he been elected, Mr. Miller would have made history as the first Black President of the Appraisal Institute since its formation in January 1991.

He would also have become the first Black individual to lead either of the Institute’s predecessor organizations since 1981, when William S. Harps, MAI, broke racial barriers by serving as President of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers.

Mr. Miller is the only individual to have twice received the Appraisal Institute’s prestigious Y.T. and Louise Lee Lum Award, which honors exceptional volunteer service and leadership within the profession.

His record of dedication, integrity, and vision for the profession has been widely recognized by peers and colleagues.

The Board’s decision not to elect Mr. Miller, despite his unchallenged nomination and broad support, has raised serious questions about the organization's commitment to diversity, transparency, and the integrity of its leadership selection process.“

Hopefully, A.I. will share this at Tuesday’s 8/19/25 BOD meeting update, including who will be replacing Byron, and why, at the last minute.

Interesting. Don’t know anything about him. I wonder what the issue was.

My money is on revaa shut it down :rof:
