Thanks to all for your thoughts and professional opinions.
I appreciate everyone taking the time but, I must confess, not being in your industry, that some of the terminology is a tad over my head, but it has made for some very interesting (perplexing)reading.
Unfortunately, the building and safety codes read some what cryptically.
Understandably, the bottom line regarding these things are the laws of the land. That I get.
Just a couple of more tid- bits for your reading pleasure.
First, there is no additional gas meter. I tied into the main house for that.
The area I am in has a lot of "backyard" additions. My neighbor across the street tore down her 2 car garage and erected a free standing two story structure (obviously permitted).
My next door neighbor has a second free standing two bedroom , two story structure that I believe is non-permitted. When the property was sold they tented only the front house.
That property is at least 30m years old. Grandfathered perhaps?
The bottom line is this:
When we built this add-on I documnted every aspect of constrution with pictures. Lots and lots.
We took care to follow all of the known building and saftey rules.
Is there any "after-the-fact" way of making this structure permittable?
Have any of you guys ever heard of this being done?
Could oine hire an architect after the fact to submitt drawings?
Or is it simply very black & white, can't un-ring a bell, etc.
Again, thanks so much for your contributions....
