Are RE Brokers insured to appraise?

Thanks for the responses. I am learning more and more about the differences in the appraisal industries our countries. Inorder to receive a designation here in Canada our "mentor" must be a designated appraiser, review and co-sign each report. From what I understand of the US procedures a RE Broker or banker can also be a mentor. Does this mean that they sign the report as well?

An apprentice/trainee in North Carolina must work for a certified appraiser for a certain length of time. No bankers, brokers, or stock car drivers. Most trainees are hired by the high volume sweat shops and learn that trade. The very good appraisers still learn the hard way.
