Are Well/septic Distances Now A VA Requirement?

Ive been a long tiime VA appraiser...first time Ive received this stip....lender saying they need distances between well & septic & drain field as well as distances from property lines to 'ensure it meets VA requirements"...any thoughts>

They are a Health & Safety issue, check with the local Health Dept. to see if the subject property meets local Health Code, if not am sure the VA/FHA would like that info.

The cost to cure is another issue altogether

I dont think its a VA requirement, i have noticed though that some SAR's think it is. I have had it come up a few times, in fact just last week.

I've not had any problem with it and I do a lot of VA rural appraisals. The FHA does not require the distance between them be reported, but it does require the appraiser to be aware of the distance and report it if it is not more than the minimum distance. I would think the VA would have the same requirement.

Nothing about well and septic in there but some interesting information about airport noise that i did not realize had specific VA requirements. Guess it really is a good idea to just read through those documents every once in a while...
