Artificial Grass?

I doubt astroturf would add much value in my area. What I like is a gravel /rock lawn with native plantings or a xeriscaped lawn.

I agree on both. Artificial grass is getting very popular here, and some of the products look really good. I would like to install it in our front yard, but I'm getting a lot of flack from the lady of the house.

I have seen some properties where either the quality of the turf or the installation was not very good, with obvious seams, etc., and that would have to be a negative for property value and marketability.

To the best of my knowledge, I'm the only Hawaii appraiser active on this forum and to tell you the truth - I haven't got the slightest idea. I haven't seen any artificial turf since I moved here in 2006. Most areas here get plenty of rain. I know of a few that are pretty arid, but most are not. Where do you live? Let me know and I'll be happy to make a few phone calls to old time realtors I know who may have had some experience here with this. Good luck!

Artificial turf in Hawaii = Inground pool in Fargo.

Homeowner in Dallas installed astroturf. City made him tear it out as a code violation. Another homeowner installed "native grasses" in their yard, but they naturally grow over 6" in height - got into a 2-year fight with code enforcement over mowing, etc. Better check with code enforcement, etc before you start this.

It would seem that a $10 bag of seed from your local hardware store would be a lot cheaper.

Thanks for all the replies. I live in Honolulu next the kahala mall. I only know of one other guy here that has fake turf as well, he also put in a putting green and it did not hold up that well to wear. I thought it might appeal to a buyer that was looking for a vacation home here, if i ever felt the need to move away.
