Hello all. Can anyone tell me what's the best way to go about finding a licensed or certified appraiser to work under or even recommend a good company to work for? I have my license as a real estate agent here in Michigan and I'm looking to supplement my income. Any leads would be most appreciated.

Laketa,

Welcome to the forum. First, if you are looking to do appraisals, under the supervision of a Certified Appraiser, (as of last Jan. 1, State Licensed appraisers can no longer supervise a trainee) you first need to become a Limited Licensee through the State.

Then the tough part will be finding a Certified Appraiser who has enough work to take on a Limited. Whether or not you will receive payment for your training is another question.

As far as looking for a firm to work for, just google "Michigan Appraiser" and start dialing.

Good Luck

Laketa,

First off, only a Certified Residential Appraiser or Certified General can supervise a trainee as of 1/1/08.

Second, with orders being scarce and fees on the decline, now is a difficult time for licensed appraisers nationwide, let alone Michigan with its tumbling economy. I would question why anyone would want to take on a trainee at this point in time??

Good luck in your pursuit.

(betts... you beat me to the punch) !!

That's what I was afraid of. I really took the training for the knowledge to have while working at a real estate agent, but now I'm again trying to increase my options. I guess I will have to start dialing. Thanks guys!!!!

Ya, I'm just sitting around at my boring "day job" (Real Estate Broker) waiting for the phone to ring:Eyecrazy:
