Trying to move years of text data basing and client lists from one computer to another but it's from Athena to Aurora.....I got the help stuff from tech but it looks like Athena to Athena or Aurora to Aurora....nothing for Athena to Aurora which appear to have similar but differing directories. Any thoughts or knowledge on this topic?

I have both the contacts and textdb copied to a disc, just don't know where to put them.

Thanks-

Good question. I did a clean Aurora install on our server when I built my latest computers back in the Fall of '08. Didn't concern myself with the databases at the time (all we used were text (drop in) DBs since Athena didn't have a comps db like Aurora does).

I poked around my Aurora install, and the only DBs, and DB references I could find were SQL scripts in the database folder of Aurora. I may be mistaken, but I do not think that Athena used the SQL-style database, and instead, used regular old MS Access MDB-style databases. I also found no "conversion" application hidden among all the little helper apps in the WinTotal folder(s).

You can try this, once you have Aurora running:

1) Open the main WinTotal folder/directory where WinTotal Aurora is installed.

2) Scroll down beyond all the folders (Files, Network, PDFiles, etc) to where just the application files are.

3) Look for the application called "Sys2k32.exe" (its icon is a wrench, hammer and red cross) - Double click that icon. The "WinTotal Tech Support Assitant" will open. Click on the bottom option "WinTotal Utilities" and hit "Next". There are many "database" utilities in there. Most likely, you need to scroll down on the Left List (of the 2 lists), to #18: "Athena Database Conversion Utilities".

There are several database utility apps in that Tech Support tool - if the Athena conversion stuff doesn't work for you, maybe some of the others will.

If the information is truly valuable, I suggest making an image of the drive on your old computer as a backup, install Aurora on the old computer, do the Aurora-Aurora transfer, then do a restore of the image to the old computer so that it once again has Athena. It is probably a good day of work, but it should not be that difficult. If what I described does not make sense to you, you might want to hire someone to help with the job.

You can email me for a quote if you like. :rof:

That makes sense, the back up being the key I suppose. I was going to do the Aurora update and see if the format transferred ON the old computer with the newer software but I don't know what I am talking about and wasn't sure if that would happen.

I'll ask you this though.....I have a back up on an external, is that worth anything? You can just say no, you don't have to explain....it'll probably just go over my head anyway.

Thanks for checking in though. It would be helpful to get the info but not entirely necessary.

Here's a link to a la mode's document on this specific process! Hope this helps!
