Split Foyer. (also the name of a reporter on CNN)
 
In these parts they are known as split foyers.
 
We call them Bi-Levels here

As we do in NJ MR, and we apply this criteria which is allowable as per FNMA

"Fannie may states: The appraiser may deviate from this approach if the style of the subject property or any of the comparables does not lend itself to such comparisons. However, in such instances, he or she must explain the reason for the deviation and clearly describe the comparisons that were made. So as long as the appraiser can define consistent comparables with below grade and above grade areas, and they give reasonable cause, below grade areas can be included. "

Whatever you call it, it's one of the worst dwelling designs ever devised.
 
While I prefer a rambler, I don't mind them. Their full basements are brighter then ramblers with the basemen raised allowing lookout windows surrouding the lower level...not to mention they appear grander being 1/2 story taller.
 
A split level on steroids.
